Experience with the Lyman Digital Trigger Gauge

I've been doing some tests on the trigger pull-weight of one of my rifles and have discovered something about the Lyman Electronic Digital Trigger Gauge. As many of you know, you have to hit "Ready" (and it gives a little chirp) before applying it to the trigger. I've found that, if I hit "Ready" a moment or two before bringing the hook to the trigger, I get higher weight readings than when I first bring the hook into very slight contact with the trigger before hitting "Ready." It seems that the scale starts recording weight even before the hook is brought into contact with the trigger. I'm now setting it up so that I bring the hook to just lightly touching the trigger before I hit "ready" as that seems closer to the actual use of the trigger.

For those of you that have the Lyman digital gauge, what have your experiences been with it? Am I on the right track here?

Interesting. I don't have a lot of experience with mine. What I have been doing is 'position' the hook close to the trigger ( in the I am ready to measure now postion). Then hit the 'ready' button. Wait for chirp, then make contact with trigger and pull the device.

Coincidentally, because I did this just this afternoon, I replaced my RRA trigger with a Trigger Tech Diamond. I used the Lyman to measure its pull and it was @ 2.54 pounds, out of the box. I adjusted the trigger to less pull weight (as the Diamond adjusts down to 1.5#). Measured my adjustment and it read 1.54#s. Perfect for me as I wanted a trigger pull of a pound and half and why I bought the TT Diamond.

I shoot from a bench, so lighter pulls work in my shooting. Anyway, my limited experience. lg
