Expected accuracy off a bipod

When shooting off a concrete bench at 100 yards, using a Harris bipod or similar with a rear bag, what kind of accuracy do you strive for?

I have been able to shoot some 0.2" 5 shot groups, but most of the time I am seeing an average in the upper 0.3s. I think the gun is capable of better, as I will shoot a nice cluster of four with a shot a little outside of that.

Post #41 from Alex Wheeler in this thread has been an inspiration for me. I shoot ninety percent of the time now on that little piece of carpet .

I tend to average a 0.3" best group from the bipod for those guns. I can and have shot cleans at 1000y and have some groups in the 0's, but more in the 1's from a rest with an appropriate gun. I'm an F/Open shooter so I don't put a ton of work into shooting from a Harris style bipod beyond 0.5moa as that all I would ever need for my hunting guns.

Basically, if shooting from a Harris/Atlas bipod, it's for a reason. 0.5moa is a completely reasonable standard of accuracy for a capable shooter.

I use to shoot Harris BRM Bipod's, went to Sinclair F Class, am shooting Off Concrete bench's, I Use a Memory Foam Bath Matt approx 3/8 " thick, No Loading required & to Eliminate Bounce Have posted a few picture's under varget204 with Barts Bullets out to 1000 ydson the 6BR & varients site

I shoot off of nothing but Harris bipods and concrete benches. All of my custom rifles are BR and GT variants. If they don’t average .250 for 5 shots, I replace the barrel. I do have a piece of carpet under the front, but haven’t always done that.

I’m really not sure why bipods get so much hate. I think the style of rear bag is more important.

What I believe also.

So what rear bag are you running thanks.

Depends on the stock. For most stuff, a protektor rabbit ear: plain leather, hard bottom, heavy sand in the base and regular in the ears. Pretty soft ears. Baby powder to reduce friction.

I don't shoot off a bench, anymore
Used to, but always got better groups prone
Prone on the ground with Harris 9-13" bipods
Always
.1 - .2" groups
its more in how much recoil your rifle generates in my opinion
And your follow through technique
-----------
Also, it is best to have your bipod mounted so your legs fold forward
Then "Preload" the legs on the bipod
One reason I choose Harris, very well made and tight fitting parts
Other cheap bipods are kind of rickety
-----------
One other tip, the feet of your bipod must be on earth or very thin material
Nothing padded or the padding will bounce your fore end throwing groups off
My buddies and I shot off carpet one time and every single one of us was shooting no better than 1 MOA
and this was with 1/4" MOA rifles
Until I finally pulled the carpet back and moved bipod to the dirt
Suddenly was shooting 1/4" MOA again

If shooting with a Harris Bipod off any hard surface, Bruce Piatt's Aluminum Replacement Bi-Slide feet & a thin memory foam pad work well.
