expectations from a factory rifle?

Im guessing factory rifles are alot more accurate than what they use to be. I recently bought a remington 700p .223 1/9 twist. I went with it because it came with a h&s precision stock, aluminum block bedded and a free floated heavy barrel. Almost bought a savage 12 fv. If it came with the h&s stock I would of probably bought it. I think savage does make a 12 series with a h&s stock but its a single shot? I hear lots of great things about savage rifles! Im very pleased with this 700P. Its built like a tank and shoots awesome. With some suggestions I was given from this forum I found that this rifle loves 69g smk's. It will shoot under .5 with them at 100 yards. I had a few 5 shot groups that was pretty much 1 hole. 3 clicks up and alittle more patience and it shoots 1 inch groups at 200 yards. Havent tried shooting groups at 300 yards yet. More been finding out how many clicks up to hit bullseye at 300 yards. 9 clicks I do believe. Factory rifles are plenty accurate for me. I hear savage rifles are even more accurate than remington! I guess that is what target shooters need. I bought mine for everything (hunting, target and plinking). I love the h&s stock. Its dull and heavy duty. Dont have to baby the gun while hunting! Im so happy with this rifle I bought another! Its in .308. No scope yet. Saving for a nightforce. The .223 has a bushnell 4200 elite 4-16x40. I do believe I will be buying a savage in the near future. If EVERYBODY says they are awesome, then they must be! Moral of the story....factory rifles are plenty accurate for the average joe! Funny thing about that.....75% of the people on this forum isnt the average joe! Lots of benchrest guys here from what I see.

Hey stinnett. Just a thought. Unless your looking a nightforce benchrest high magnification it my be worth looking for a used leupold and having them install the reticle of your choice. I was able to find a vx-3 6.5-20x50 for 420 then it was 159. for leupold to install their Tactical milling reticle. Which is awesome. They even make a billistic dot reticle which if you know what your loads are they will put dots for the various lengths you shoot. For 580 I have scope thar most shooters will love out to 300. Nightforce Scopes are nice but for the range you mentioned maybe overkill. The 500+ you'd save could be a big chunk of your savage. Take it for what its worth.

Yep. The nightforce isnt a done deal yet. Been looking at leupolds, bushnell elite 6500, vortex (great reviews for cheaper scope), nightforce nxs, sightron and trijicon. Buying reloading kit and dies too. Expensive hobby! Savage will be the next rifle. Near future means the next year. Really want a 220 swift AI or 22-250 AI in 9 twist. Want a super varmint gun!

I was at cabelas when I bought my elite 4200 4-16x40. I had 3 scopes in front of me. A leupold vx2 4.5-14x40, nikon buckmaster 4-16x40 and the bushnell that I bought. When I looked through all three scopes I quickly handed back the nikon. It didnt even compare to the other 2. I then played around and looked through the leupold and the bushnell for a good 10 minutes. The guy working there told me to look at a fish on the wall which was on the otherside of the building. He said it was over a 100 yards. I kept looking through both scopes and finally decided on the bushnell. It honestly had better glass than the leupold. It felt more solid too.

50 mm objective and 30mm tube makes shooting that much more enjoyable when lighting isn't perfect. I go to the Cabelas Hamburg quite a bit. They have an eye chart across the building high on the wall. Its perfect for comparing Scopes. Not many people or salesman for that matter know about it. The chiefs took it down once before because it didn't match their motif.....

Do you have a 4200 elite? I have one and I want to know how much better the 6500 is?

I have a 6-24x40 4200 as well. I use them for different disciplines so it is hard to compare! For there given uses, they are both about perfect!

With the three scopes you were looking at, you should have been looking through a Nikon Monarch, not the Buckmaster. The Monarch is comparable to the 6500 visually. I prefer the Bushnells, but my shooting buddy prefers the Nikon Monarchs.

I finally got out on a 70 degree 0-10 MPH wind. Couldn't be happier. With 4 different 75 amax and 77 grain nosler bullets and lapua brass. Most were. 5-.75 at 100. Had a couple. 25-.5 center to center and one that you can barely tell is more then one shot. Can't be more then 1/8 center to center. These were all fired prone. Would love for someone with a quality rest, more reloading talent, better trigger finger and with a good reputation in this business to test one of these. I realize anyone can post anything and I'm nobody. So what I say goes nowhere. Someone respected in this sport may get some pretty impressive results.

bought a fcp-k savage in 223 with the 1x9 twist and honest to God have shot several 3 and 5 shot groups under an inch at 300 prone. this thing is awesome. best was a .430 at 300...
