example drop info - 6.5 Creedmoor in Utah

Hi there,

I have a chance to go out with a buddy on Friday for some long range shooting. I have a new 6.5 Creedmoor gun that I'm getting solid .75 MOA groups out of at 100 yards but haven't had a chance to shoot it out longer yet. I'm going to get to the range but with the holiday this week (it's thanksgiving week) so I'd love your help! I am also new to 6.5 CM so that's why I ask. I normally shoot 308.

Elevation here is about 5000 feet, normally very dry but we have snowstorms for the next day or two. Unsure how much humidity affects it. Gun is a 22" proof barrel (amazing) and I have found the 140 Sierra bullets (via Winchester Match factory ammo) the best and notably better than anything Hornady at this time. I haven't been able to find much online about Winchester Match ammo and what it's loaded with and FPS info, yet. I plan to order about 1000 rounds then build my own ammo using these cases, I think.

This week, I'll be doing 300, 400, maybe 500 yards at most I think. I'm all ears on example info if you have it.

thank you!

These are 5 shot groups if it helps. Psyched.

The ones that are tight are the Winchester Match. the ones spraying all over are Hornady both 140 and 147. Amazed at the difference between Hornady and Sierra 140 bullets both at 140 grains. Fascinating to me as I start getting into loading ammo.

For average velocity loads in my 6five
My come up is 1.1 mils @ 300,
2.8 miles @550.
Roughly 4moa come up @300, 9.8 @ 500

I would guess you will need somewhere around 10 moa to reach 500 yards with a 100 yard zero. If you hit low click up and if you hit high click down.

K just installed Stelok and it seems to be giving me good info.

This is my first MOA rail with 10 MOA on this one, all of my other guns are level. How does this affect calculations if I'm shooting sub 500 yards, and the scope is in MILS. Super confused on this one.

My only approach so far has been DOPE so I'm learning all of this stuff as we speak.

thanks

The rail basically wants your scope to give you more movement in turent adjustment.
Zero is zero weather it's a 0 moa rail is has minutes added in.

You're going to need to dial roughly 3 mills for 500 yards.

With out chronographing the ammo I would assume 2,600 - 2,650 fps with the 22" stick in colder temps. Velocity claimed by Winchester is 2,720 from a 24 or 26" stick.
Use 2,625 fps and .540 G1 bc in the ballistic calc to start. That should get you pretty close out to 600.

In my grandsons RAP, 22" barrel, Hornady 143 ELDX runs right at 2,625 fps, DA @ 9,400'....500 yards needs 2.6 Mils with 100 yard zero.

This is a prime example of the effects of elevation.
Shooting the very same rifle
I also shoot 143eldx @ 2720 av fps
I'm shooting at 1200ft elevation and I'm 2.8 mils to 500 yards.
Your grandsons velocity is lower than mine by almost 100fps, but has .2mils less come up.
