Erik Cortina Mounts Precision Scope

I respect Mr. Cortina. He is an award-winning long-range shooter. Most of his videos are excellent and I've learned a few new tricks on reloading from him. I enjoy his presentation style and humor. I loved the part about lapping the rings.

I've never had to mount a scope in the field, nor would I attempt to do so. I just hope new shooters don't watch this and try to mount a scope this way. It gave me hives watching him beat on the scope with a tree trunk!

I won't go into the proper way to mount a scope, but with all due respect, I'm sorry this isn't the way at least in my humble opinion.

If new shooters see this and don't realize it's a joke, they should not be anywhere near guns.

Some will take it to heart.
I was holding a qualification for our long range one day. I sent the requirements ahead of time so the shooters would know what to expect. Pretty simple. 5 shots into a 12 inch circle at 200 yards. You don't have to be Sgt York to pull that off. They were told to have their rifles zeroed at 200 yards ahead of time.

One shooter failed to qualify. Did not put 1 hole in the target. He was beside himself. Said he came out the last weekend and everything was fine. During further discussion, he admitted that a couple of days earlier he took the scope off the rifle and put different set of bases on his rifle. He couldn't understand why that should make a difference.

Before I knew who Eric was, I saw a spoof video that he made about pouring concrete. If I remember right, he was using grass clippings as an aggregate and doing other equally dumb stuff. It was near the end of the video when I figured out that it was a joke. Up to that point, I really thought he was just some random dumb ass with a video camera.
