ER shaw barrels ?

i for one aint happy with my shaw barrel...not in the least..

cocopuff, ER Shaw has never been known for competition type accuracy, but last year I was going to build and AR 15 around a krieger barrel , then I saw Stag Arms had a Varmint model 6 AR that they guarantee 1/2 moa at 100 with premium ammo, it has a stainless heavy barrel by ER shaw 1/8 twist, I bought it put one of my T36 Weavers on it worked up some loads , varget, and berger 77 gr otm, and after load development I grouped 5 shots at .4, I am still impressed with it haven't been able to shoot it at a longer range yet but will.

there is a fellow that competes at 300 yards and he has a shaw
barrel in 6br that is a tack driver..chrome moly bore,light weight
barrel..i sent mine back in a month ago and havent heard anything yet.
oh well,you get what you pay for...i aint bashing them either. cause i know
they do make an excellent barrel... 8)

Since my first reply about a Shaw barrel I'd bought a couple of years ago, directly from Shaw. I've acquired a 1 in 8 twist 6X45 stainless Shaw barrel for a 223 Axis rifle I owned. Gent I shoot with on a regular basis had recently rebarreled a couple of Savage rifles with stainless Shaw barrels that he'd bought from Gun Shack here in Texas. Gun Shack keeps a decent selection of Savage replacement barrels made by Shaw and McGolwan. He was quite pleased with his Shaw barrels. Bores cleaned up easily and were quite accurate. Normally, he'd prefer buying a Shilen barrel for one of his rifles.

I'm still experimenting with various powders, bullets and etc., but so far, I'm very happy with my Shaw 6x45 barrel. Have shot some darn nice groups with it, dispite the original Axis trigger still on the rifle.....yea, I've played with it, improving its factory trigger pull, but still sucks. Have a Rifle Basix trigger ordered for it, just to see how well the Shaw barreled rifle can shoot.

I only have one Shaw barrel. It's a 20" AR barrel in 6.8SPC. It shoots ok for the platform that it's in. Standard AR heavy trigger, with Bushnel 10x mildot scope. I shot a 1" 10 shot group off basic sandbags at 100yds. It's my in the woods whitetail rifle. If I wanted a lower cost barrel for a bolt gun though, I'd get a Criterion. Mostly because I know people there, and they make good button rifled barrels.

I have had and shot out one E R Shaw barrel and it was worth the money, it was a 6.5-06 that I chambered. I have owned one Hart barrel that is less accurate than the ER Shaw. The 6mm BR is a very nice cartridge to own and shoot, I have had 4 or five 243's. For a fun gun 6mm BR, deer hunting gun 243. Buy Lapua brass and good quality bullets and the fun level goes way up, I like to shoot Bergers at this point in my life. I have used and killed a lot of animals with Hornady bullets. Buy the best brand barrel that you can afford, I have used Shilen, Douglas, Pac-Nor, Hart, ER Shaw. I like Krieger and Bartlien at this time in my life. Good luck

I have been very happy with my Shaw barrels; in fact one of them is probably one of the most accurate barrels I own. A 6.5-06AI that shoots five shots into just under 3" at 800 on a regular basis is a beautiful thing. All my other Shaws hold Half MOA pretty easily and I have been very happy with them.

Well all I can tell you is that I've had some really good ER Shaw barrels and some just OK ones. If accuracy is what your after then get a Krieger or Brux . There's some stocking distributors around for what your looking for if you know where to look. Just don't cut corners because of the cost, buy once cry once , atleast you won't make the same mistake twice. Ask me how I know this. The bottom line is buy what you can afford and be happy with it. I have bought older rifles that looked like they were cleaned with roto rooter and they shot quite acceptable groups for hunting. The er shaws are way ahead of them and have heard more good than bad. I put one on my savage in 7-08 and it shoots way better than the savage barrel did.
