Equipment needed to accurately shoot 6.5 at 1k

Here is my loading equipment shopping list i already have the basic equipment plus a rcbs chargemaster lite and have the new lyman brass smith all american 8 turret on order to replace my lee 4 hole turret
Hornady bullet comparator set
Hornady head space gauge 5 bushing set
Hornady overall length gauge
Hornady ammo concetricity tool
K&M micro adjust neck turner set with pilot and inside cut pilot
Lyman universal case prep kit
Lyman flash hole uniformer
Whidden gunworks click adjustable sizer bushing 2 die set
Then for the loads i plan to start with
Starline 6.5 creedmoor small primer pocket brass
Sierre matchkings 142 gr
Cci benchrest small rifle primers
Imr4350 powder
Is there anything im missing or should change?

I will be shooting out of a stock for now at least savage 12 LRP. Is the savage action in need of such equipment?

Thank you
Chad

I'll keep an eye on this. I have just received a 6.5 CM Savage barrel off of a model 12 that I'll get spun on an action next week. I have the same brass, primers, bullets, but will be using RE-16, 23, and 26 for powders.

Currently i dont have a set of 6.5 dies even. And all my current loads are for plinking or hunting. So i really dont know how deep i need to go.

Don't buy anything else. Do with what you have. After some experience you will want to change half what you have now.

This is the best advice you are going to get. Buy a set dies and start loading. You’ll learn as you go what you’ll actually use, most of the stuff on your list is going to end up in a drawer collecting dust.

I wish I had read more before I started buying. I have more money than sense and have literally thousands of dollars of things that I have bought for shooting 1,000 yards that I have yet to even take out of the boxes. I went to my first Bench Rest School at Williamsport two years ago, took notes and then bought everything they showed, used or recommended. Big mistake for me as a newbie.

Thx i have been reading a ton and im not made of money.

So do i buy the high end dies and go from there or ???

A good set of dies helps and I would recommend bushing FL sizing dies so you can bump the shoulder .001-002" and still adjust neck tension easily. I use .002". A good seater is recommended too. That said I am still using my original standard FL Hornady dies from 2008 with the only change was adding a micrometer stem to the seater and they load very accurate ammo. I use Hornady brass and they give me .002" of neck tension when sizing with the Hornady brass.

You can shoot accurately to 1000 with factory ammo so don't jump too far down the rabbit hole. Good tools and components will do you well. Get what you can afford and add on as you can.

I don't see a scale in your list. You really can't spend enough money there. In my opinion anyways.

Edit: Chargemaster. Apparently Im blind.

How do you define "accurately"?
Are you going to shoot competitively or just for fun?
If competitively which one(s)?

Berger 140 gr. HB Bullets better than 142's ???

Whidden or Redding Bushing Die Sets.

I see you have a Charge Master ? ??? Possible replacement in order ??

Chad you may want to add a couple of boxes of Hornady and Prime ammo to use as a baseline; these do pretty well for many shooting steel. Then judge your load development from those.

Unless you’ve already bought everything, save your money and don’t buy these items. If you’re shooting a stock savage chamber, no need to turn necks yet.

Has the action been bedded to the stock?
Has your trigger been lightened?
Are you shooting from a rest or bipod?

I agree on no need to turn the necks. I have shot out multiple barrels and have three now and never turned a neck.

I would say to get the headspace gauge as you will need to know how far back you are bumping the shoulder when sizing. Also get the OAL gauge as there are other ways to do it but this is a very easy one and is quick and accurate. Just got one last year and really like it after years of doing OAL to lands the hard way for many years.

You can drop the flash hole uniformer too.

Any reason why you want small primer brass? Can run into problems with firing pin holes and also depriming if your dies don't have a small pin. Large rifle primers work very well also.

The Starline small primer brass has the regular flash holes. They had issues with their large primer brass in slightly mild and up loads.

That's good that the flashholes are larger but he still might have issues with his bolt face.

Odd they have problems with their brass in those loads. Figured it would be made well enough. I shoot Hornady brass and have no problems with hotter loads.

Before we jump down the rabbit hole on gear what do you want to do? Competition, benchrest, mid and long range, PRS, hunting or plinking? Let us know. For now use what you got.
