Elusive 6 Dasher load

One of you kind souls has been doing his dead level best to help me find a good 6 Dasher load. I won't name his name, as I don't have his permission, but want to say thanx. I feel like I've taken too much of his time already.

Only load I can find (for 600 yd F-class comps, mostly ) to shoot worth a darn is 30.6 gr Varget at 2,820 fps. (Haven't seen RL- 15 / 16 here for 2 years) I know that's a yawning velocity, but since it shoots good, I'm wondering if I should just be happy with it and move on. Honest to goodness, I've tried OCW tests on everything from 30 gr - 33 gr (some 3060 fps) twice and can't find a good load. Never had this kind of trouble before. Gun builder (don't have permission to name him either) told me to call him if I can't find a good load and I will Monday, but don't want to bug him unnecessarily if 30.6 is a legit load for 6 Dasher.

I know the lower velocity will increase the effect of wind. And have more bullet drop over distance, especially if I go to 1000 yds. Looking for the wisdom of more experiences shooters.

Thanx.

Did you try another primer and/or different neck tension? Bullet seating depth will be a factor as well.

I always try to nail down seating depth before anything else. I usually circle back as a last step again for a fine tune. Have you explored seating depth fully? You might try another bullet. I am amazed at how one barrel will like one bullet and the next one (chambered with the same reamer) might not.

Speed is nice but nothing without accuracy, and if 2,820 shoots best it isn't the and of the world. Just pretend yo are a 6BR :)

Only CCI 450s. I've annealed. mandrelled, different neck bushings, different serating depths, all the stuff I been successful with before. New to annealing and getting very consistent seating pressures. And I had pretty decent successs 0.2 - 0.4" at 100 yards for PRS type groups.

May be a good Idea to try and find a different primer. Not very long ago I tried a small test with 3 primers. CCI BR-2 CCI 34 & FED 210M The CCI BR-2 turned in the smaller group @ 100 yds.

To clarify, main thing I'm looking for is if anyone shoots a mid-weight charge (like 30.6 gr) for a cartridge that goes up to 32.+ gr. Or if that's just a crazy idea. :)

Yea I'm a fan of the CCI 450s in my 6BRX as well but it sounds like you are running up and butting with that load.

I'm genuinely baffled. Best other load was 32.4 gr, avg. velocity 2997, with ES of ~ 20 fps and 0.60" grp at 100 yard about 30 off the lands. Wondering if I could play with seating depth to dial that in or if that's more tail chasing..... if seating depth could drop that down to 0.25 - 0.35"

32.2 had an ES of 3 fps with about same size grp. Avg velocity 2,978.

Seating depth can certainly make or break a group.

OCW's ....the groups suck rotten eggs. But does the data tell ya anything ?? Like a nodfe or a charge weight to play with seating depth?

Off lands: 0.030"
Powder: Varget
Primers: CC! 450s
Bullets: 105 Berger VLD's
Brass: Peterson, annealed, sized with 0.266 bushing, then 6mm mandrelled.

I've had a few dasher barrels, all 30" and shoot fclass in Australia with some success I like the speed to be around 2950fps. Every barrel I've had shoots very well with around 10 thou jam. Boringly simple but always reliable using Lapua cases, Varget, Cci 450 and Berger 105 or 108 pills. They are not normally fussy if you have sound and consistent reloading techniques with a good rifle set-up.
