The 338 Lapua or Improved version is a great start. It definitely will get you out 2000+. Much beyond that I think I'd step up to the .375. What people that are getting started in the ELR game need to know is that the 338 LM isn't just a rifle that works only at ELR ranges. It's a decent LR rifle as well. IMO it's a gap rifle. Fits between the Mid range and ELR range as well. I'm using mine this November on my whitetail hunt where my range will be less than 500 yards. I'm using the 230 ELDX. With a brake, it's an easy gun to shoot if you don't mind toting a 15lb+ rifle around. With 300s I'm getting 3000+ fps. I've downloaded the 230s to 3100 fps. They shoot very well without being the best ELR bullet option. At 500 yards they do a great job on a whitetail.Wat would b a good build for someone wanting to get into ELR shooting and let’s c those ELR builds
