ELR Handguns

I have a few 16'' and under but all of my long range pistols have 18 '' . I would be open to cutting them down if there was a couple matches to attend or more . It seems that WY has all of the matches for this sport ! I know there were shooters from Mississippi , Michigan , Ohio , Washington , IL show up there to shoot for 3 days at Wy shot and then MOA . That scheduling is good for guys that can go one to another so mabey schedule them apart from each other .

That being said I would do both so I wonder how many new shooters would attend on on the east side of Mississippi ?
I would think if rules were established and a matches scheduled there would be a pretty good turn out. After competing in ELR Rifle Matchs with my handgun there were several rifle shooters that said they would be interested in building a ELR handgun if there were competitions to compete in with them. It would be like any other sport in its infancy, once there is a commitment to the sport and a few matches shot word of mouth would spread quickly throughout social media and your sport would grow quickly. I do believe that keeping barrel length limited to 16” is key to being recognized as a Handgun Competition and avoid the stigma of being just rifles without a butt stock.

Heavy gun at MOA is 18lbs and 17 or 18" barrel without brake, I cant remember for sure. Shot off a rest

Hunter class is 15" shot off a bipod and 12.5lbs.

If we stuck with something similar to these some people already have guns built for this or closer to fitting in.

ELR is 25lbs light class 50lbs heavy class I believe. Everything has to be shot off a bipod and rear bag. For ELR Handgun you could have light class (anything with a standard bolt face 15lb max weight) and open class (anything up to 50cal max, 30lb max weight) all handguns limited to 16” barrel, brake not included in length. Weight should include bipod and anything else attached to the handgun. Everything shot off bipod and rear bag. No benchrest style front rests allowed. Everything shot prone for competitors that are able, competitors with back and neck issues can use a portable bench.

Seems like a super interesting layout. Gotta day though, I like the idea of silhouette. If it doesn’t fall, it doesn’t count. A lot less practical for ELR distances and having to reset targets, but keeps an energy requirement on the table.
