ELF Savage Trigger

Is anyone using this trigger in a Savage BR rifle? If so, how about a review. How low can it actually be set? Simplest design I have seen.

Thanks...RR

I just went to their site and the Savage trigger only goes down to 1.25 lbs.. not what I would call a BR trigger. I am at 7oz. with a PTA trigger.
The Rem trigger goes down to 2oz. but as we all know that doesn't help our Savages.

I can shoot 12 ounces on my Savage PTA before encountering
that annoying side movement safety that forces you to re-cock.

I shimmed my trigger and don't have the annoying side movement safety release that forces you to re-cock any longer. Shimming does away with the side movement- the trigger can only move straight back for the most part. My trigger is adjusted down to about 10 oz.s. I still have my Red Safety trigger blade in. I understand further reduction is possible if you choose to remove the Red Trigger safety Blade.

Respectfully, this thread is about the ELF Savage Trigger, by Elftmann Tactical. I am already aware of all other triggers available to Savages, and have the best of most of them. I,m hoping this relatively new trigger can be brought down to a pull weight suitable for precise Bench Rest shooting. I am seeking better than 10 or 12ozs, with a clean break. The design of this trigger is so simple, I don’t see why the pull weight can’t be set lower than 1 1/4#’s, unless Elftmann is just being ultra safe. Hopeing to hear from someone who already has one, so I don’t have to go in cold and be the ginny pig again.

From their description

The ELF SAVAGE 110 SE Precision Rifle Trigger is the pinnacle of drop-in trigger systems for the Savage 110 and Axis precision rifles. It is infinitely adjustable from less than 1.25lbs to over 4lbs.

1.25# may not be the low limit. They also show a Remington trigger that goes down to 2 oz

I have a few of these triggers and I like them so far, no slop and a crisp break. They get even better with use. The best part about it in my opinion is the flat shoe that can be set down low for the most leverage, it definitely makes it feel lighter than it is. As far as adjusting the pull weight down they are designed so you can only back the plunger spring tension screw out so far before it falls out completely. I’m sure the trigger is designed this way for safety, they even went as far as using the smallest set screw possible so you can’t even shave a little off, you’re only hope is to try to find a lighter spring.

^Thanks Kmart, and thanks Spike. This is the best information I’ve gotten so far. A good review from an actual user. From the pictures, it looks like the sear engagement is minimal. So the only thing I could see that determined pull weight was the spring. Would shortening the spring be a possibility for reducing pull weight?

Unfortunately not as cutting coils off increases spring rate. You’d have to find a lighter spring of the same length.

also here’s a picture of the plunger disassembled.

By removing the red blade on my Savage accutrigger I have the pull weight set at 6 oz. My buddies Sav 2 is set at 4 oz. I see no reason to replace either with a new trigger set at a higher pull rate.

Their remington triggers work well and theyre a good company. I suspect their savage trigger has undergone a lot of testing and they will stand behind it.

On another thread I was having issues with the RB SavII trigger. I am not doubting the 4oz trigger, but does it trip off aka slam fire.
Taking the blade out of the accu trigger has been done by a fair amount of folks, I don’t agree with it.

Kinda like no brakes or chute on a drag car.

Actually had a gent tell me to put the safety on and that would fix it. A slight bump to the stock and it trips off, not what I would call fixed or safe. About as exciting as a bad N02 switch.

A drag car is a good analogy to what is done in BR competitions. We push the limit in every direction. Would I use my trigger in a hunting rifle? Absolutely not but that's not what we are trying to accomplish.

On a Savage PTA bench gun I cut two coils off the red flipper thing spring and adjusted the pull down to a very consistent 4 oz.

I couldn’t get it to slam fire.
