--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eleven year old David Phillips, my cousin, came in from
Atlanta to visit his grandparents this week. His granddad
told me David wanted to shoot with me while he
was home. Saturday I loaded a gun in the Gator and pulled
up in their yard. They were ready. I told them to come up
to the new Dasher Dome and see the new berms.
David loaded his 22 rimfire and 243 in the Gator and off we
went. We started with the 22 at 50 yds and David had no
trouble hitting the 5 in. swinger.
Next, we moved the swinger back to the 100 yard berm and
he got the 243 Marlin out. He had 4 shells and went
4 / 4 at 100. I had worked with him on the back porch before
but even I was impressed by the eleven year old who only gets
to shoot a couple of times a year. Last time he was here was
last Thanksgiving
I had the Viper SS set up to shoot the hog at 780 yds.
David said he would shoot it one time and I told him it would be
so sweet compared to shooting the featherweight 243 he had
just shot.
His first shot was real close. I saw the dust fly with my naked
eye. His granddad was spotting throught the 243 scope.
David saw the dust and loved it. He said he would shoot again and
he moved the joystick and let the 115 DTAC rip.
This time I did not see any dust and a split second later I heard a
ding! Guys, David may have just scored on Ole Chuckie at 780 yds.
on his second shot. Truly amazingt as it was 103 degrees and the
worst mirage I had ever seen. Visibility was so bad we had to
jump on the gator and ride up to see if Chuckie was hit.
He had a center body hit--a death shot.
David was so excited he and Grandpa went back to the house to
get David's I-pod for pics.
While they were gone I zeroed the Viper SS at 600 yd.
They returned and had grandma with them.
He took one shot at 600 which was one inch off the bullseye.
He e-mailed me pics but I am not sure I will be able to convert it
to something I can post. I will send the e-mail to George and see
it he can post it later.
