electronic target velocity recordings.

is there a target system that will record velocities from high supersonic down to say 800 fps?
such a system would encompass 22 target ammo, pistol ammo, long range smokeless ammo that has gone subsonic as well as trans/super sonic, and long range black powder.
this would add to the versatility of investment should it be possible.

Midway had it listed for $599. I would have thought it would be more expensive.

Maybe silver mountain target would record the speed. I doubt it would record it as a shot on target.

Not a target system and only reads out to perhaps 100 yards. Nice instrumentation though if you can afford one.

True on the SMT and it picks up shots that DON'T hit the target too, good for getting folks "on paper" as long as they're anywhere close to it (above the pit wall and shots have to pass the target /sensors plane) when they begin shooting. Not yet used or even seen the Kongsberg or HEXTA (another 'closed' e-target system) products.

Are you looking for muzzle velocity or downrange velocity?

The SMT e-target system provides a non-instrument-grade reading of the bullet speed at the target, if the bullet is travelling supersonically. It is physically incapable of sensing subsonic bullets. (Heman's report of seeing a 1050fps figure is surprisingly low, I know he is crazy and shoots in really cold weather but the speed of sounds in an air temp of 32F/0C is 1085fps, and you have to go down to -17C or zero degrees F (!!) for the sound speed to have fallen to 1050fps).

The Kongsberg e-target system functions with both subsonic and supersonic bullet impacts, however it does not measure the speed of the incoming bullet.

If you want downrange speeds at speeds including subsonic, the LabRadar (if you can get one!) would seem to be the way to go. Someday I'd really like to try one out.

Don't quote me on this but my understanding is the LabRadar chronographs aren't intended for down-range deployment either.

At least not yet.

They can be optioned with a sensing trigger that enables their use with small bore stuff and even bow'n'arrows, otherwise they need a muzzle report for activation.

I'd like to try one too... someday. Maybe set up my 35P at the same time.

what I meant was how good electronic targets are at recording position of bullet strike at lower speeds.
velocity recording is not all that important, as that can be roughly established from muzzle velocity and juggling b.c and comeups on jbm or the like.
interestingly these bpcr bullets seem to show differing b.c. depending on whether trans or sub sonic.
when transonic they exhibit 3x the wind deflection of a 308 155 palma load.
when subsonic they exhibit 2x the wind deflection of the same 308 load.
ave g1 b.c is well over 0.5 for out to 1000 yds, so must be a fair bit higher when subsonic.

I would expect all of the chamber target systems (OzScore, Hex, Kongsberg, Sius, etc) to accurately record the position of subsonic bullets hitting it. This assumes that the chamber target is in good repair as recommended by the manufacturer (the rubber membranes are a wear item and need to be patched or replaced from time to time). BP bullets make much bigger holes in the rubber material than .308s etc do, but that's just a matter of keeping on top of the target's condition and repair.

One must remember that the slower the projectile, the more wind distorts the sonic cone. Therefore velocity readings may not be as accurate at one might want.

One of our Fclass shooters has a LabRadar as pictured he was running it during a match to get data. Was rather cool.
