electronic powder dispencer

hey fellas i was just wondering about the rcbs, hornady, smartreloader, and any other dispencers you all may use? i like to reload but i hate measuring every single charge. right now i just have a 5-0-5 scale and uniflow dispencer. they work great , i am probably more of the reason it is so slow, but anyhow i want to speed up this process and still stay as accurate as possible. so what would you all recomend about an electronic scale and dispencer? would like to stay as low priced as possible but you have to do what you have to do. any suggestions would be great.

Good question and this could get into one of the Ford VS Chevy topics.

I have had extremely good luck with the RCBS Chargemaster, but do know others that have had issues with it. By utilizing my Chargemaster alone I have found consistant loads in the single digit ES and SD's. The Chargemaster can be tweaked to speed loading up as much as possible.

I always calibrate mine with check weights and double check charges on an acculab VIC 123. The Chargemaster I have is very close to the mark even when compared to the Acculab weights. The key is having a load that is tolerant within a few tenths of a grain like you find in the OCW method. The Acculab is a way of even becoming more accurate with loads.

With all electronic scales/dispenser combos minimizing other electronic interference and having good "clean" power (use a good power regulating surge protector) are very important. Avoid rooms with excessive wiring and especially flourescent lights. They emit an electronic magnetic field that can mess with the scale.

You can usually find the Chargemaster on sale on many of the major retailer sites and I believe RCBS has a rebate on their website.

Good luck and good shooting!

Pete

I have had two RCBS chargemasters. They work pretty well, usually charging to +/- .1 of a grain.

I think they're perfectly good for hunting loads as is, and I use them as a first step for my match loads (followed by a GD503), as they work a little better with Varget than a powder drop.

well all sounds good except for the flourescent lights, my garage/reloading room is littered with them . seriuosly there are 5 different fixtures in the garage. oh well i may have to remove the 1 over my reloading bench, it is the only 1 that is on when i reload anyhow. i could replace it with some form of directional lighting. well thanks

Simple solution, jraney. Just 'borrow' a lamp with an incandescent bulb from inside the house during powder dispensing. ;) And turn off all the flourescent lights in the garage. Don't forget to keep all electronics such as cell phones and laptops at least several feet from the scale.

I have had good service from my Chargemaster, too! I would buy it again. I have had no issues caused by the single 2 bulb fluorescent fixture that is over my loading bench. It is a T-8 fixture, and is probably 56 inches over the table top. Cell phones and cordless phones make it do tricks! I'm an electrician, and I hope that I spelled "Fluorescent" correctly. Lord knows, I've worked on enough of them! Lightman

MMMMMMMMMMMM.

My Hornady has a fluorescent light right over it. Maybe as close as 16". Never know it was a problem. Probably tens of thousands of charges done on the Hornady. It's OK for me. Little tricky to figure out at first. Then it's real simple.

Like stated by a few above. The RCBS Chargemaster is a fine scale/dispenser. Mine crapped out a year or so ago and the warranty had expired. I called RCBS, they told me to mail it to them with 45 bucks (+/- a little, can't remember the exact $ amount) and they sent me a new one. I've loaded thousands of rounds with this one and the previous one and am very happy with them.
