Electronic ear protection?

I am talking about some that are not the muff type that work good.Tell me what’s out there that works.

I also have been using Etymotic, their GunsSport-Pro (GSP-15), and they are great. I am hard of hearing, and when I have the Etymotic's on, I can hear better. And yes, they do suppress the loud sounds sufficiently without additional protection.

I bought a pair from EAR about 3 shot shows ago, and couldn’t be more happy they were a upgrade to this basic model.

Had a show special for 1k or 1,200 was very hesitant for that kind of money but bought them. year later for some reason one started hurting a little called them and they recasted them for me a little smaller. great company been very happy if I get 8-10 year out of them worth every penny. Just depends how much range time you get. In the summer I try twice a week so I could justify it (at least that’s what i told myself)

While this thread is running, would like to ask a question. Who makes an electronic hearing protection device for folks like me that have a pretty severe loss - up to 85 dbA? TIA

I'll tell you how to get protection when you are hard of hearing.
It is not widely known, but nearly all hearing aids have a vent from the outer side of the aid to the ear canal. This is to stop or reduce occlusion effect, which is the effect similar to sticking your finger in your ear and your own voice sounds loud and very bassy. Also, most aids have a limit to the magnitude of the output signal can be. My analog hearing aids have a maximum of about 17 dB SPL. With a sealed aid (no vent) you are fully protected from gun shot as yur mastoid bone conducts outside noises with 40 dB or so of attenuation. Check with your dispenser to find out the maximum output your aid can produce. If they say they don't know, it is on the paper work that came with the aid that the dispenser should have in your records. If it puts out less than 120 dB SPL, ask your dispenser if your aid has a vent. If it does(most do) you can plug it temporarily with either a vent plug that dispensers stock or get some Fun-Tak which is a putty like clay that is adhesive. Roll up a small ball of it and plug each vent on the outside of the body of the aid.

And, yes, I know this as I studied Audiology (in addition to my BSEE) and I have a hearing aid dispensers license. I also worked for a company at the end of my career that did research and product development for the ear. And, yes, they make the GSP-15!

May want to avoid the Walker Razor - especially if you have small ear canals. Even the smallest foam inserts provided hurt and would not fit into my ears correctly. Consequently they did not diminish the report from rifle fire much at all. For me anyway, a total waste of money.

I have been using the Peltor TEP-100 ear plugs for a little while and really like them. They are comfortable, work well and are rechargable. That is a real good bonus. No more hearing aid batteries that go dead even when not in use.

+ however many for the ESP's. Had mine from my shotgun days, going on 8 years now and they still work fine.

I bought some GSP15's almost 2 months ago, and still haven't put batteries in yet.. Temps climbing into the 40's this weekend, I'm gonna put on some shorts and knee waders and try them out ! Good to see I made a good choice according to so many others.

i have a set of the nitroear ones. they are a bit $$ but i love them. they are VERY useful when hunting and extremely comfortable.

Peltor TEP-100s with NRR of 30db. So far this is the best ear plugs for shooting I've tried. This is more costly but if you want the electronic amp this is a great choice. Sorry it took me so long to reply.
The GSP-15 is an analog amplifier which means 1. it has great fidelity, 2. it maintains situational awareness and 3 it uses little power!
The standard for hearing aid use is when wearing them 8 hr a day, the batteries last one week.
My GSP-15, as I open the battery door between use, the batteries almost last the shelf life of an operating battery or a month. Most hearing aid batteries use zinc-air batteries (the highest energy content of ANY battery chemistry) so they don't start producing power till the little tab is removed. Then they have a shelf life without supplying power for about a month.
