E.A. Brown 6mmBR Barrel Question

Though I've been a shooter and reloader for the better part of 40 years, I am new to the 6mm BR. Reading this site convinced me to build another Savage in the BR chambering.

What is the forums opinion of the E.A. Brown barrel?

Tom

I'm thinking that you could get a 6br to shoot great even if the barrel was a chunk of sewer pipe........ but it will shoot super great if you used a well know barrel maker....
This is the first time I've heard Eben's name mentioned on this site for what ever thats worth....

Brown used to use outsourced barrel blanks for his EABCO barrels. IIRC they came from Douglass. They had a reputation for good accuracy at a decent price.

Unfortunately EABCO barrels now makes their barrel blanks in house and the shooters, that I personally know) that have purchased them are disappointed. Complaints of heavy coppering and so-so accuracy have been the norm.

I have been shooting one of the little E Brown rifles in 6mm BRM for a number of years. Never used it for hunting, just range work. The accuracy is acceptable but not great. E. Brown gives little help on recommending hand loads. Can anyone email me with a pet hand load for this cartridge? sashe@cfl.rr.com Thank you, Steven

My opinion, there are better prefits out there for $100-$150 more . X-Caliber, CBI, McGowan, Shilen, and others.

After reading the post below mine I came back and edited mine. My thoughts are the same as Stomp.

I have experience with two barrels from EABCO, one chambered in 7mm Rem mag and another in .260 Remington. Both proved to be great shooters for hunting weight rifles. I would put them on par with E.R. Shaw as far as accuracy, fit, finish, and quality. Yes you can get a better quality barrel but like mentioned above it will cost you extra. If you are wanting to compete competitively I would suggest a better barrel, but if you are just wanting a nice accurate hunting rifle the value of the EABCO barrel is tough to beat.

I've got one of the "accuracy" barrels in 243 Win. 8 twist. About 50 rounds in, and it's showing potential. Had a couple of 5 shot, 100 yard groups with 107 Noslers and a starting load of H-1000, right at .375", nice round groups, too. These were just forming loads with new brass, to get the barrel broken in. Hopefully, with a bit of load development, those groups may shrink a bit.
