Drying Brass

How are you drying your brass after Ultrasonic cleaning?

Food dehydrator from the local box store. Do some digging for how people dry brass after wet tumbling with SS media; there's at least one recent thread on it.

Rinse in 90% Isopropyl alcohol and either let air dry or stick in 175 deg. oven for 1/2 hour or a dehydrator.

120 deg C ~ 250 deg F for about 10 minutes.

Hot enough to evapourate water, but not too hot.

I have a reloading block with holes drilled in it.

I load the block up and leave it in the airing cupboard for a couple of days.

Never thought of annealing wet case to dry it. Great Idea!!!

I rinse then blow them out with compressed air then dependent on the time of year, lay them on a towel in the sun.

I shake the brass in a towel to get the bulk of water off. My next step is to leave in the dehydrator for 45mins or until there are no signs of moisture inside the cases.

Blow them out with an air gun then put them in my tumbler!

I'm drying brass at this very moment after wet SS tumbling.

I shake them off in a colander and then dump them into a small bath towel. I form the towel into a hammock shape and shake the cases back and forth to dry the outside. Then I dump them into a mesh bag and dry them for 40 minutes in my wife's clothes dryer on high-cotton setting. I use a tennis shoe rack, but you can also just trap the neck of the bag in the door so that it doesn't get tossed around.

Then, since I have a heat gun at the ready, I hit them with the heat gun for 30 seconds and/or anneal them.

In the winter, I drop them neck-down on the rack pegs in the dishwasher, then turn on the dry cycle. In the summer...well, I'm in Texas. They go to the porch for a bit. Dry and annealed

Harbor Freight Food Dehydrator is cheap and would do the trick. I use something just about like it from Frankfort Arsenal.

200 oven for an hour. Touch of oregano, optional.

Oven, preheat to 200 or so, turn off oven and put brass in.
Most important! Tell your wife what you are doing so she doesn't crank it up to 425 to heat pizza!

This post is stirring my OCD side. Seems complicated for just drying.
1) Deprime. Tumble with stainless media, tap water, Lemishine and dish detergent.
2) Shake them easily in a strainer to knock out most media then grab 4-5 pieces, shake them over the bucket for the last of the media then inside a towel.
3) Finally blow out the primer pockets and wipe with a towel, load in the Annealeez.
This entire process can't take an hour per batch. Ready to size.
