Drilling and tapping all the way through the front bridge. Can it be saved?

I’ve got a line on a cool old action but the seller’s description sounds like someone drilled into the bolt lug engagement area. Can that be repaired? It’s going to get a scope, so if the only issue is cosmetic, that’s not a problem. The action is rare enough to correct Bubba’s mistake.

Most actions that are drilled & tapped for a scope have a hole in the lug recess. That's why you get a long screw & a short screw with the base. What is the action?

Probably not a problem but....
Caliber to determine bolt thrust?
Got a pic?

7x57 at the moment. Will get rebarreled to 6.5x55
The rear hole in the front bridge. I’m thinking clean it up with surface grinding, which wil not touch the G.33/40 markings and it will good to go.

I've seen it several times and I've mistakenly done it myself on one a few years ago.(actually more than a few now. Lol)It's been fine. Don't remember how I managed to do it but I do remember a few choice words when I realized what I had done. Either way, lots of them are like that and I've never heard of it causing an actual problem on one. Not ideal but not a problem either, at least not IMHO. I'm assuming this is what you're referring to. There's a recent thread on here about it. here..

Pretty common occurrence. Wrong, but common. The rear hole should be just ahead of the locking lug seat. Happily, it is not a serious problem. As long as the action is used for a cartridge for which it is designed (no magnums), it should be fine. WH
