Drill as power source for trimmer

I have an old single speed drill, 1800 rpm, that I want to use for the Giraud 3 way trimmer. It's fast with a lot of torque but I'd like to slow it down. I've seen router speed controllers that look like they could work but wondering if anyone has used this type of controller on a drill, router....?

I like this drill because it's runs true and doesn't wiggle. In a vise or strapped down it would be a good rotary power source for trimming, pocket cleaning, etc. It's an American Power Tool drill, over 40 years old, all metal that my dad bought used.

Have upgraded to a battery powered hole shooter to power my trimer and other accessories for years and it works for me. Mine is variable speed and I tend to operate it closer to the lower end of the speed range. Don't have a Giraud 3way trimmer, but my hole shooter has plenty of torque for neck turning.

What is a hole shooter?

A hole shooter is a Black & Decker made back in the good old days. I have 2 of them I bought off of an ex roofing contractor. One has a milwaukee 90 degree attachment on it. All metal and very powerful but there isn't any reverse. They will flat twist your arm up if the bit gets hung up on something

Picked up a speed controller at HF but still runs faster than I'd like plus the drill only works right side up, can't turn it cause it shuts off. Looked inside but no loose connections.

Well I still have the cordless drill I've been using, I just wanted to use that old drill that's been sitting around.

I have seen drills like this, weak or missing spring on a brush.....

I heard the ones from HF are junk. Here's the brand I bought and have no problems. However my drill is a variable speed but I lock it running wide open and use controller. IDK may not work with single speed drill.

MLCS is the brand. Do a search for it on eBay.

I have a small Makita 12V cordless that I use for neck turning as well as to drive my Henderson precision trimmer. Works great. I paid like $60 for it on sale a couple years ago.
