Douglas vs Wilson

I know Douglas barrels are good and I have a Wilson barreled rifle also that I have just started working with. Not really impressed with the Wilson as of yet but its to soon to pass judgement. My question is, between the two which gets your vote? I have a Sako that I want to rebarrel to a slightly heavier contour and being a Sako, I'd like to put the better of the two choices on it. Cost will be close to the same if I send it to Douglas or have a smith install the Wilson.

Douglas as well as Wilson have both been around for a loooong time.
Just because they're not on THE LIST doesn't mean they're crap. And YES you can get a bad one. That happens at times.
Douglas has re barreled how many rigs for how long? Same with Wilson. Have both with NO ISSUES.
Picked up a Wilson blank at Auction in .270 for a wildcat project. Didn't want to spend BIG $$$ and not be happy with the chambering. Was told Wilson barrels were crap because they wern't lapped. Got it chamber and have a hard time counting the 5 shot all into the same hole. Another one? In a heart beat!!
 
wilson isnt the same wilson as 20 + yrs ago . It was sold about 17 yrs ago and while they currently have decent barrels I do not think they can compare to Douglas . I would not hesitate to use a wilson on an Ar style or truck gun , I know Ill get feedback on this , but having used many of both for many years , my money is on Douglas .
 
The wait is very little. Shipping will take longer if there is no issues. There is not anyone in the industry that I know that can turn around like Douglas. Let us know how it turns out. Stan Taylor and crew are the best to work with. You made a wise choice. I have yet to shoot my old/new 40X 308 that they done for me. I have been offered some crazy money for it, but can't decide if I want to keep her or not.

Douglas is tuff to beat.
 
If you get the same shipping container that my barreled action came in, that in itself will blow you away. I was amazed that anyone can still do it like that anymore.
 
They told me 2-3 weeks. PO said they should receive it in 4-5 business days, so I should get it back the first part of Feb. I like the fact that IF there is a problem, (which I doubt there will be), there is only one call to make. I don't have to chase down two or three places to solve it.
 
I’ve never shot a Douglas barrel so can’t speak there, but I’ve never had any issues getting Wilson to shoot really good on my Varmint rifles and my son’s 6.5 Rem Mag hunting rifle.

Douglas barrels are twice the price too so that’s something to consider. For around $160, I think Wilson barrels are a hell of a deal. But that low price tag also means there’s probably a better chance of getting a dud. I’ve had really good luck with Wilson so far and for that reason I have 3 more of their barrels sitting in the lockup. One spare is a carbon fiber wrap barrel.

I’ve borescoped all my Wilson barrels. They aren’t as nice as Krieger, Brux, or Hart barrels I have but they are leaps and bounds ahead of any lapping job I’ve ever looked at on factory barrels.
