Douglas barrels

Good barrel for the $, Make sure to get the XX & have it lapped. Probably not the best choice for a target rifle but a good hunting tube. I have had several & still have a couple. Never had one that wouldn't shoot sub minute & a couple that would do sub half minute. Outside is usually rough lathe turned unless you buy it polished.

Years ago, I had SSS chamber and fit a Douglas 26" #8 fluted bbl for my 6.5-284 on a long Savage action. It shot extremely well for 1200 rounds; then went downhill. Pretty much typical for that caliber.

I have a douglas chambered in 25WSM and it shoots lights out all day long. I'm very happy with the barrel over all did a great job on the tapering.

I have a 6.5/06AI chambered in a 26in Douglas that I hunt with, by far the least picky barrel I have. It'll shoot just about anything sub MOA.

Up until today I could have said a Douglas is the only one I've ever had to send back, but I just bore scoped a Shilen that may make a 'return trip' , too.

say it ain't so . someone mentioned about a hand lapped douglas . i don't believe they lap their barrels shilen will for an additional cost on CM. T.R.

How about this: What I'm doing is looking ahead to when I replace the barrel on my AR. Which is preferable, sending off a douglas to be turned down, chambered, gas port drilled, etc, etc. Or go with (a more expensive) one that's essentially drop in such as a lilja?

You can't go wrong with a White Oak barrel. Get a Wilson, Douglas, Hart or Kreiger - chambered for them by Frank at Compass Lake. Cheaper than Lilja, too.
They supply a number of Match Rifle and Service Rifle competitors.

I would go to someone that is doing AR barrels basically every day. As stated, Wilson makes a good AR barrel as do others that are less pricey than a Lilja. Lilja is however a great barrel for a lights out AR. Not too long ago, someone was closing out some top quality AR barrels dirt cheap. I'm thinking it could have beeb Pac-Nor or McGowan. Don't take that to the bank but look at their web sites for specials or closeouts. Also depends upon the caliber.

Dittos on White Oak for AR bbls. They do AR bbls. all day every day. John uses his own CNC lathe to contour, and also has a business arrangement with Frank White at CLE - two of the best guys in the business when it comes to AR bbls.

Anyone have any experience with them?

Yes, excellent experience. I shot a .084" 5-shot group with my SSS trued and timed Savage Model 12 VLP chambered in Remington .223.

As someone has already mentioned, purchase the Premium grade, Air Gaged barrel designated XX.

Kreiger barrels on a AR fitted right will be hard to beat.

Douglas was the 1st bbl. that I shot in the 0's with on a 220 weatherby rocket also have one on a 223 AI that is a featherweight turned down even more and it shoots.75 moa or alittle better for the money and the lead time you can't beat them.

They made my first rebarrel project very easy with thier FTC option. #8 28" .280 Rem.
