Douglas Barrels? Thoughts Please.

I've barreled more actions with Douglas than any other and never had an issue. "Flavor of the month club" seems to be the way a lot of folks operate when it comes to barrels and there is nothing wrong with trying something different. All my rifles don't wear Douglas barrels, but I feel like they would be just as well if they did. I just haven't seen one that wasn't accurate.
I grew up hearing about the advantages of a "Douglas air gauged" barrel...in the 70's and 80's that was about all you did hear about. Back then around these parts, if you really wanted to shoot you had a Douglas barrel installed.

While fairly popular some years ago, Kreiger, Bartlien, Shilen, Rock Creek, Hart, and a few others have come to the fore in Benchrest. We really enjoy a multitude of fine barrel makers in Benchrest. Douglas barrels are still going strong in High Power, Service Rifle, and F-Class competitions. They make an outstanding barrel.

How about long range also?

Well it's me again, you know the guy everyone wanted to take out behind the wood shed because I didn't contact the manufacturer before posting. I said I'd have a follow up so here it is. I sent the barrel back and they replaced it. I have not had the opportunity to shoot it yet. It looks good (no funky contour this time). Whether I contacted them first or not is really a mute point now. So now I'm out; shipping costs both ways for both barrels, cost for clambering, bluing, and all the time and expense of loading and shooting which I'll have to do again. Now if this barrel shoots great I'll be happy but I'll still be out the price of two barrels to get one good one. My point was originally that the first barrel was obviously flawed and should never have gotten past quality control PERIOD. Maybe one can see my point now. As for my old Remington I just bought a new take-off barrel off ebay and fit it to my action after trueing the reciever. Without even proper break in it holds a one and a quarter inch group. As for the old barrel it hangs in a place of honor on the wall in my man cave. No need to have me blocked for negative posts this will be the last you'll hear from me, some of you sound too much like Facebook.

I don't do Facebook, but it sounds like where you belong.
Don't let the door hit you in the AZZ.

I put a Douglas barrel on my Ruger 77 standard weight some years ago, and am completely happy with it. I called them to ask if they had a specific break in procedure. I was talking to someone who was on the shop floor as I could hear machinery and shop noise in the background. He said, "don't get that barrel too hot, and it will treat you real good". I don't and it has. Barlow
Made me laugh.

I have one back on the bench. Stan Taylor rushed it to me just
a month prior to his passing. I put about 300 rounds thru it, and
it shot my loads in the high 2's without screwing around. It's
going on a short course build. Mike Ezell sent me one of his PDT
tuners for it. Going to start from scratch with it. Stan and crew
did me a Max Varmint 4 groove. The lapping done in it is impeccable !!

Ain't nobody better than Stan! When did Douglas start lapping barrels? I never knew them to lap.

I had to get out my sheet to see if lapping was listed, and it
does not. It was an assumption on my part. This barrel looks
like polished glass on the inside. I talked to Stan at length
about this project, and don't recall him even mentioning it.
I've had quite the number of button barrels from Douglas,
and Hart, and never seen one as polished as this.

They made a double button.
