Double Take...Pics!

Joe C

Student of the 1911.
Well, several of you have messaged me wanting to know where I've been and what I've been up to for a while. I've been working hard on a number of projects including this one. Matter of fact, I've been working on this project for almost a month non stop.

Several years ago a call came in from a gentleman telling me that a friend in the industry told him I could probably fix his guns. He explained that he had a dream set in mind and had tried to achieve that set but there were some shortcomings. I agreed to look at them and a few days later a lefty/righty set showed up on my door that was originally made by a now defunct company from the early 2000's.

Finally the time came to get it done. There was much to do indeed as none of the parts that were supposed to match had anything in common. In fact, the only original parts that are left are the slides, frames, grip screw bushings, pins, thumb safeties (heavily modified), slide stops, one mag catch, and...that's all. The frames were welded and re-machined to fit the slides, they were also welded on the tangs to properly fit new grip safeties. New Kart barrels were fit to the same match tolerances as my other guns. The rear sights are Harrison and give a great sight picture with the new blended dovetail front sights.

Originally the guns had large roll marks on the slides and front cocking serrations, those have been machined off for a cleaner look. The tops of the slides were stippled and Aztec cut. The frames were both bobtailed. All new trigger parts were installed. Brian Challis of Challisgrips.com did a great job on the grips which are made of desert ironwood. Brack Wilson at patriotcases.net made the fitted case.

All of it came together to fulfill a dream for one man...and I hope he enjoys them for many years to come.

So, without further adieu I present to you "Double Take", another true Mirror Image Duo...

oh my... :-*

If they were mine I'd have had some things done differently; however, those are sweet.
