Don't Forget to Thank NRA

You claim to be an NRA instructor but dont support them? And the only reason you don't support them is one of the board of directors gets your panties in a wad? Maybe you should sell your guns and take up golf.

Well....let's not go quite that far. I don't know if I wish Golf on anyone. That is cruel and unusual punishment, and a Golf Course is a waste of good shooting range land.

I'm sorry but I can't agree with that logic. In the military you are required to salute whether you respect the person or not. In public life, I don't have to "salute" anything and I damn sure won't show Obama any respect. He is just a man like you or I and I don't see him being President as an accomplishment either, more like a travesty. I say that on the basis of the fact that he has done more to undermine the constitution and divide this nation than any other president that I can remember. Obama being in the office of the President of the United States is the biggest form of disrespect to that office that I can think of. I personally can't wait until they usher him out the door. But that's all just my opinion...

I understand (and agree with) the logic of the OP (XTR) that while in the military, you salute the uniform, as that person is your superior officer. In our country, our government is the "Government of the People" and all of the elected officials are just that, elected oficials, elected by us, and are merely public servants, more or less the opposite of the military hierarchy. Basically, they work for us, and essentially, we are in charge, or are supposed to be, anyway.

Something I learned in the Navy, you may not have any respect what so ever for the man in it, but you salute the uniform. Like him or not, he is the President of the United States of America. Give the office it's due.

There it is. I learned it in the army.

The job is worthy of respect.

Whether you call him President or not reflects on you, not him, and I am worthy of respect, so I show my self-respect by calling anyone in the Oval Office "President", and anyone wearing a Lieutenant's bar "Sir", with a capital S.

This line seems to fall straight down the line of veteran/non-veteran.

It amuses me to wonder how many of those calling for contributions of money (the cheapest treasure of all) to this board never served.

You tell me. I'm not a member.

Do you ever get flyers by snail mail, just asking you for more money? Do they cost money to produce? Do they cost money to send? Do you ever get offers running "specials" to upgrade your membership? Giving you a "break" if you recruit new members?

Do you get offers for hats? Jackets? Badges? Bumper stickers?

Everything they offer you cost money. Your money. Money that you gave them to lobby with, and they instead chose to spend to ask your for more money. Or they chose to spend your money on cheap goods to sell back to you at a profit.

That's not lobbying.

Everything you hold in your hand and read is a waste of money you gave them to lobby with.

But don't think about that the next time you're reading a "Special Offer".

Some time back, I came to the conclusion that these days anyone who wants to be President, is probably insane. The more they want the job, the more insane they are. It's a little bit difficult to respect the job when you believe that whomever holds it is the biggest looney of them all.

Like it or not the NRA is reason we still have the Second Amendment. Like it or not Trump is going to be our Commander in Chief. I don't not like or support Obama. He is the President and Commander in Chief. I do respect the position but, not the person. Before the election and I became a NRA Life Member because I had a bad feeling about the election. Thank god I was wrong. All the gun stuff I do, I thought a life membership was the least I could do when they are the one's doing all the work and I take advantage of that work shooting and hunting. Like others have said, "You salute the rank, not the man." I will always respect the position of Commander in Chief, but I probably will not always respect the person. And the same went when I was in the Marines. I saluted and said "Good morning Sir", but that didn't mean I meant it. Some times I meant good morning and sometimes I didn't. But, I knew to respect the rank. The NRA is why we can still shoot and own guns, and Donald Trump is going to be our president. Like it or not, that's the way it is.
