Don't call in these.

Polebridge Montana,I accidently called this in at 50 yards,in a 12 foot tree stand large spruce, actually wanted a wolf or coyote as I've called in this region a dozen times. He made me but didn't figure me out, thankfully he lumbered off ,I had a 270 ,should he have attacked he'd been taken out, but it's a major issue to deal with then.Last picture he senses me and were less than 50 yards apart.

I actually unintentionally did exactly that many years ago hunting predators in the Wieser State Forest near Hamburg Pa. I nearly peed my pants!

Fortunately, the bear winded me and veered off in another direction. It was a large bear, and I had a pip squeak 223 with varmint bullet reloads. The bear responded to a fawn distress call.

That’ll pucker you up! One time I was calling close to town and a large Rottweiler came in. He got within 50-60 yards. I was in heavy cover and fortunately he never zeroed in on me. All I had was a 22 Hornet, a little light for a 125+lb dog! To say I was a bit concerned at the time is an understatement..

I love bears. Magical creatures. I enjoy everything about them. However, I fully intend to enjoy everything about them from thousands of feet away.

I feel the same way. Have had many encounters with them when I lived in BC. While sitting on the edge of a clearcut deer hunting one morning with my trusty M70 .270, this old boy wandered by, sniffing me. I must not have been on his "explore further" list thankfully, and he just sauntered off into the bush.

When these guys appear unexpectedly close-up, it sure boosts the ole' BP! :o

Yeah the OP's griz looks like a young one and maybe why it came to a call. I've often considered a big cat coming in and not seen, but not a griz. That would cause some serious pucker factor given it was coming in to the call/him and not simply wandering by.

A 22 hornet is not a little light for a dog,or a grown wolf for that matter,an Alaskan guide Matt Vaughn has shot a hundred wolves over bait with a 22 hornet all drt, some made it 50 yards. I used one for years until the 17 hornet came and then sold mine to one of the guys here, that was about three years ago.

I’ve shot lots of coyotes with a Hornet and never lost one. But I wouldn’t want to have to stop a pissed off hungry Rottweiler in an emergency situation.

similar to how I feel about snakes. I'm not necessarily afraid of them (though I've never been confronted by a 20' Burmese python in the Everglades, or any size for that matter), but I treat them all as poisonous. Leave me alone and I'll do the same.

No story on what or how it actually happened yet, but, within the last few days, two fellas were hunting black bears with dogs, in Elkford BC area, ran into a large furry critter instead, and it decided it didn't like them, they're both in the hospital. They did kill it, F&W found it dead in searchig the area, no word on the dogs.

my aunts live up on the mountain near Williamsport PA- they say they have lots of these close by.

Grizzlies in PA?
My wife, son, and I were on spring bear hunt in Montana. We were a couple hundred yards from the cabin a few minutes before dark and saw a bear drop down into a ravine. When it came out the other side we determined it was a grizzly. The walk from the cabin the the outhouse was never the same.
