Turkey hunting in Texas

Just got back from my second trip out to turkey hunt. I Had only hunted turkey on purpose once before. I had shot a couple while I was deer hunting, but only once went looking for them.

The first time I went on purpose, a Friend of mine invited me to go to his deer lease and he was going to call me a turkey. He did call me in one at the other end of the field,220 yards) so it was good that I had my 223 Remington 788 along. The 63 grain bullet that had worked on a few deer, worked well on the turkey. I congratulated my Friend on such a good job calling and told him at least it wasn't 300 yards!

Anyway back to my second trip this year to hunt turkey, I got 2; one with my 6-284 87 grain Honady BTHP at 100 yards and one at 80 yards with my 16 inch barreled AR 15 6AR with a 90 gr Berger. I called both of these in using a slate call.

The first trip this year I just hunted my deer stand and hoped something came by. They did, one at 190 yards and one at 288 yards both killed with the 6AR.

Both hunts were fun with good Friends and good food and lots of stars at night.

I know this is not like calling them in and using the shotgun, but this is a rifle forum!

Hope some of you had the same opportunity!
