Does Overhead LED Lighting Affect Electronic Powder Dispensers?

I had a RCBS, it was horrible for EMI sensitivity and thermal drift.
Gave it away, got a Hornady. It was much better, but still finicky with different powders and kernel sizes. It also wouldn't permanently store any setting changes.

Went old skool with a Belding and Mull, and hand trickling onto a US Solid lab scale. Much faster, dead-nutz with zero over-shoot.

I use a tuned up M-5 balance beam and once you get used to it you will notice it goes wonky in stormy tx wx due to static electricity in the air. My huge led arm light overhead = nothing. I would assume a sensitive electronic scale would freak out in unsettled thunderstorm wx also. I close my loading room door and throw a towel over the floor vent when weighing powder. When it is stormy I work on brass!

Mike, my Chargemaster Link loves that battery pack you recommended...cleaner power. :) -Al
My chargemaster light gets checked all the time with my manual scale. I have never been off .1 of a grain, or less than my eyes can see. I've been using it for two years, BUT,,,, it is ALWAYS POWERED, by my "Tallentcell" lithium power pack. I've never used it with the 110v power supply, doubt I ever do.

I've never herd of problems or drift using the portable power supply, it just works, for days.

Can this be used with a FX120i scale as well?
The chargemaster is powered with an adapter from the factory, this is a 110v unit, but it adapts the 110v ac to 12v DC

This is the CM power adapter

It comes with a plug set to alow it to hook to 240v or 110v. But it only puts out 12v to the scale.

The Tallentcell is just a 12v lithium power pack and comes with its own recharger, and is available with more or less
I am pretty sure your scale uses a 110v power adapter as well. On the adapter itself it should tell you what the output power it adapts to. Your manual should also tell what power range you scale needs to operate. Mosalall run on 12v DC power to the scale, but check yours to see.

You just need to know what plug type is used to connect it.

The Tallentcell is just one of many 12v power supplies available. But it is well priced, and uses built in circuitry to assure safe power output for electronic devices.

Many others do also, some for less money some for more. But even those for more can be less safe and not come with the power regulation to assure proper output. This battery pack is one of the portable units many are using to load at matches, and very well priced and reliable. One charge will last for multi day match use loading 2 and 3 days at the range without recharge. But I usually charge at night if using it heavy for the next day.

My second Hornady electronic powder dispenser just died on me, same reason as the first died because both dispensers repeatedly threw over-target charges & would not (re)calibrate & was told they had served their useful life and needed replaced. So, I went to my local Cabela's and purchased the RCBS Chargemaster Supreme. Fortunately, I caught it on sale and saved myself $150.
I read & reread the directions and followed step by step and having owned two electronic powder dispensers, I believe that I can master the RCBS Dispenser's learning curve. All went well at first, then the over-target charges again reared its ugly head.
Then it occurred to me that somewhere, sometime ago, I recall reading an article about loading bench lighting and interference from electrical gadgets around the loading bench and to turn them off or distance them from electronic powder dispensers.
So, I have a two-part question: 1st is my recollection correct? 2nd does LED Lighting affect electronic powder dispensers.
My rcbs only works when it is warm it has to be in a stable temperature. One trick is to weigh your tray. This will take a few try’s to make sure it’s the exact weight. Write that number on bottom so you always know what negative number the scale should say when you pull the load off the scale it helps identify if you had drift. My tube has straight riflings in it to speed up powder dispensing. I found a piece of stainless tubing the perfect size to slide all the way in the tube this slows down clumping. And I added an ink pin tip the perfect size at tip this slows things down to single kernels if you want. I just trimmed it back until I found a happy medium. I always wait until thermal drift is longer than the time it takes to run each charge. I only see maybe 1/100 overs.

out of curiosity comparing to my process with hopper, vibro trickler and scale, how long does it take to cycle from cartridge to cartridge? ie the whole process from putting the pan back in to taking it out to dump?

I've never timed it.

When the charge is dispensed, I dump it in a case, put the pan back on the dispenser and hit 'Go'. By the time I seat a bullet (Wilson seater and arbor press), the next charge has already dispensed. Rinse and repeat.

Hope this helps. :) -Al

I have a chargemaster link and a creedmoor scale. I also have overhead led shoplights. I have not noticed any problems. They are not connected to the same outlet as the scales. I try to keep my phone away from the scales. I also have a brand new house so the electrical is good. Who knows with old houses.

If the LED runs on anything but line voltagge it requires a transformer that has a magnetic field around it. Florescent bulbs have a big ballist transformer that creats noise. Buy a line conditioner surge protector unit. Some of the line conditioners are junk. I would unplug the scale if there is lightning in your area. A voltage surge can destroy the scales electronics. The ferrite filter devices that go around the 110V line are a good investment.
We call the transformers ( Driver) my LEDs don’t seem to have any effect on my fx120 nor do cell phones

Turn the lights off and use a basic flashlight and see if the over throws quit.

There are LED setups that will cause radio interference, have one in my garage. I can turn it off and use other LED's in the garage, no problem. It's 3 on 1 base, screws into a regular socket. Manager at an Eco lighting LED oriented shop, told me that some types of drivers used in the cheaper LED's will cause radio interference after I mentioned that to her. I have not had any issues I can attribute to lighting from the LED's I have around my bench. I use an old Lyman 1000 from early 90's, a 2011 vintage Chargemaster 1500 and an Autotrickler V4 which uses a phone and Bluetooth. I have a line conditioner and a surge protector on the power supply to the bench. There again, I ran it for 10 yrs w/o the line conditioner for the scales also, never had any issues.

Here you go.

Handy link to the kit

I should probably look at this again and make sure all the part numbers and links still work.
