Interesting topic. I just started using coated 40 cal bullets from SNS casting, and I am pretty happy with them so far.

I've used a lot of Berry's plated in 9mm and 45 in the past, but haven't shot them head-to-head against coated.

What is the coating on these bullets? Is it some kind of paint or powder coating? Wouldn't it foul the barrel?

Jacketed is always better, but if cost is the issue, then you may save some money with the plated. Crimp and velocity is critical with the plated stuff.

Just picked up 1300 Blue bullets. I normally shoot jacketed or plain lead. 9mm and 38 Super up to 1350fps. I will report back on the coated bullets. Since I don't have issues with unjacketed I don't expect problems here.

I shoot both in 9mm and 357 mag/38 special and 45acp, Each work fine, don't have a preference between them.

Always shot Berry’s-
Tried coated- 1 little nick/ or powder too much/ you’ll start smell the sweet stuff…

Shoot coated Blue Bullets as well as Bayou coated in most of my 9mm. The exception is my 9mm Open comp gun, jacketed only there… The hot charge required for major power factor tends to dirty up the barrel / comp & popple holes quickly….
Some coated bullets don’t handle powders like Titegroup well so buy from a quality supplier…

I've shot a BAZILLION Berrys plated with absolutely no problem -- and some of those were pretty snappy loads.
I also cast bullets for lower power plinking, and finally coated some of my own. They didn't do very well in my nines. Barrel got crusty, and accuracy wasn't too great. I used the Harbor Freight white powder, and I've heard it's not preferred.
I haven't tried commercial coated. jd

Blue bullets work great in my experience, berry's work well also. I prefer the blue bullets myself.

Shooting 165 gr SNS round nose coated bullets in my G22 gen 5. I started out hotter than I wanted at 1087 fps compared to WW 165 range ammo at around 1030.

I've since dropped my output charge of CFE pistol from 6.4 gr at 1087 fps, to 6.1 gr CFT at 1050 fps, down to 5.9 gr at 1029 fps. I'm running Rem 1-1/2 primers.

1029 gives me a conservative factory like load with a top end buffer for pressure. The hotter loads were fine, but I like a little cushion to be safe in hot temps, etc.

Incidentally, after finishing my first pound of CFE, I started a new lot which gained 30 fps on an all else equal load of 9mm 147 RMR. So I'm re-developing my 40 cal load for a new powder lot. Isn't loading fun?

All of my PCC's are suppressed, so only jacketed bullets for me. however, I'm told by the mfg. that plated are OK to shoot through them though.

I run jacketed, plated, coated, and traditional lead with the wax lube in pistols & SMGs. All work for me, largely it is determined by what I find for a good price when I make a buy.

I shoot coated out of a built 1911.
Bull BBL and six port steel comp require hot loads to function.
FAQ on the Missouri bullets web site state vel up to 2000 FPS with the HI-TEK coating

For my CO and Prod guns, it's almost always coated, but they are low on PF on purpose.

My own experience: plated feed more consistently through the bullet feeder on my progressive press than coated. When buying several thousand rounds at a time, plated are essentially the same cost as coated. My preferred vendors are Everglades Ammo and Rocky Mtn Reloading. Good product and good companies. These rounds are used for fun and IDPA.

Our buddy has a B&T sub gun that had an issue with the suppressor mount. He would shake bullet jackets and fragments out of the can like crazy before he send the set up in for some sort of repair.

The baffles and end cap had no damage at all. Unlike centerfire rifle baffle strikes, it seems that some pistol cans can survive some bullet strikes.

The coating that blue bullets uses it's some tough stuff, I've picked them up out of the dirt behind the target and the coating is still intact, they look like you could almost load them again.
