Do you shoot with one eye open or both open

That one depends , side arms both open . ARs both open . Rifles with good optics , both open and cross eyed, one eye on the flags (or climate conditions ) , one on the scope. When the time comes to send one , one eye on the glass . One eye shooting should only happen for one second maximum

Both eyes open, it allows me to watch the wind flags, and the mirage in the scope simultaneously! Seeing the wind flags is more of a periphery thing cause your main focus is the scope.not only does the eye fatigue if you close it it also starts to starve the other eye of oxygen and some folks get floaters. I have a book written by an old army coach that discuss's this and was the reason I started shooting with both eyes open.
Have scotch tape over the left lens so the left eye gets light but keep both eyes open for prone and sitting. Will use the left eye to look through spotting scope. Tape is in the middle so I can see below and above, but not at the level the sights are at in sitting and prone. Offhand I close the left eye for whatever reason I don't know. Just shoot better with left eye closed.
The reason I ask is I catch myself slightly squinting my left eye shooting with my right. But my shooting eye does dry out and fatigue when closing the left eye. I guess having them both open is more natural unless you are an old school perv winking and the girls and have your winking eye muscles bench pressing 2lbs LOL
I shoot with only my right eye open. I've been shooting right handed since I started, which is about 25 years ago. The problem is, I'm left eye dominant. When trying to shoot with both eyes open, I get all sorts of problems.
Both eyes open but wearing shooting glasses with right prescription lens and left front and lateral blind light covers.
I shoot with both open with an opaque flip down cover over the left eye. If you close the non shooting eye the other pupil will try to compensate, which not only fatigues but for those of us with astigmatism, jacks up the sight picture when using irons. I find even with a corrective lens in my shooting glasses shoot better, longer with both eyes open.
The wish I was one of the guys who could watch the wind flag while in a riflescope but I don't possess that kind of processing power apparently.

I'm also right handed left eye dominate. My uncle an avid shooter scolded me good when he picked up my 22 one day and couldn't hit anything, I showed him how LOL. Problem was I was shooting with my left eye (didn't even know it) open sights it was even more frustrating for me to learn to shoot after that.
I can't see how anyone can train a dominate eye situation ? The only way I can think of is the above try shooting with your left eye right handed, but you won't see much with your right eye. As to problems I have not had any with one eye closed, if I were to shoot in a match maybe it would be more of a problem reading flags etc.

Always both open. Better balance and perspective results in improved body control and shooting.
You really should be using your dominalt eye but you can train yourself to use either or both. I can shoot right or left-handed with either eye. Especially useful with handguns, it helps with rifles also.

With open sights, both eyes open, left eye covered with a piece of cardboard tucked into my cap. I use my right eye for sighting, looking through the spotting scope, and reading flags. I know it sounds like a lot, but my eye does not get as exhausted by using only one eye. I also found that my scores went up after I started using a blinder. Ken Roxborough with the USMC team told me about that in a clinic I attended and noticed an immediate improvement in my eye by switching from just shutting my left eye.
The Russians studied this very extensively 30 years ago to help their 300 meter Olympic Rifle Team. Result was that they determined if the non-aiming eye was closed up to 28% visual acuity was LOST in the aiming eye! Best to leave the non-aiming eye open and use some form of blocker to fold down over the eye!
