Do you shoot with one eye open or both open

Both open with a scope. Just seems natural however even with the left open I don't think what I see really registers much through that eye even though it's open. The concentration through the right eye just overpowers it.
With iron sights (especially pistols) it makes no difference. I may as well keep them both shut as there is little difference with the results. Glasses, no glasses, blinders....its all the same. (age?) I was never that good with a pistol anyway.

If you shoot with one eye closed it reduces your distance vision, because your pupil dilates in the open eye. So if you shoot with iron sights particularly, keep both eyes open and use an opaque blinder, it will increase the clarity of your target.

Depending on the recoil, both eyes closed may be the only option.

That bad huh...LOL!

I'm right handed. Since I was a kid (eons ago), I have always closed my left eye whether shooting a handgun, granade launcher, rifle with a scope or with iron sights. I think I (like many) am a creature of habit and learned to shoot that way and am comfortable using this method. Now I understand the benefits some say they get by keeping both eyes open. But the fact is, if you haven't learned to train your brain to process the information both eyes are seeing PLUS remembering the little things that allow for ultimate accuracy before "sending it," the two eye method may cost you dearly down range. I've tried the both eye open method in the past (several times) and just can't seem to get my mind to cooperate and at the same time shoot as accurately as with only keeping my right eye open. Now I'm not bad mouthing the two eye method and if it works for you, more power to ya. I've just never been able to get comfortable with it despite trying.

Unfortunately I had a rather severe trapdoor fracture in the right (shooting) eye when I was young, so my eyes don't track looking up, I can't shoot thru a scope with both open as in that position I have double vision. Can't shoot thru a scope prone right eyed, it won't move up far enough.

I don't have stereoscopic vision, so it doesn't matter if both eyes are open, as I only see out of my dominant right eye.
To see out of my left eye, I must close my right eye.

Having monocular vision (which I've had from birth) can impair depth perception. That's why I park my car by sound. ;D

I'm very comfortable sitting behind a rifle with both open, but I wink the left shut and focus on my aim point in the final second before the shot.

I shoot with one eye open with a scoped rifle.

Shooting archery, pistol or shotgun I shoot with both eyes open.

Used to shoot with both eyes open then I turned 50 and started wearing prescription glasses, cant see vapor trails anymore, need to close one eye to focus better.

I vacillate back and forth on that. Some days one eye open, other days, both eyes open.

That's odd, and I do the same. As I have aged my shooting eye is not as dominant as before, and sometimes I find it necessary to squint my left eye so I can focus on the reticle; this is especially obvious when there is a strong appearing object to the left eye which the right does not see through the scope. This is also apparant when bird hunting (yes with a shotgun) in order to get the proper sight picture on the bird; begin the swing and get on the bird with both eyes then squint the left to home in with the right eye. Just another joy of getting old(er).

"Do you shoot with one eye open or both open"

Why, yes, I do..........

Sorry, my equivocation is showing......:)

Both open, except scope at times. Both eyes when I touch the trigger......

I always thought I shot with only one eye open, but when I was shooting with open sights (SR) this weekend, I realized my left eye was open.

This kind of surprised me, but I was shooting good (for me) so I didn't really pay much attention to it, either way.

I figured if you can get a good sight picture with both eyes open, then worrying about closing your left eye is one less thing to think about.

With a shotgun on skeet or whatever, definitely, both eyes open (I think).
