Do you name your favorite guns?

I started naming them when I started keeping logs. Each logbook now has a name instead of a serial number and caliber.

I choose the name during the work-up. It really does help to keep track of them, and which rifles have certain characteristics.

Rem 700 22-250 I used for Coyotes "Painless"
Rem 1100 12ga rifled barrel with scope " Bad Mother Fu^%er"
Gamo .177 pellet rifle "Black stick of Squirrel death"

My best friend used a 22” barreled M-77 .250-3000 on groundhogs.
Shooting Sierra 75 HPs over 39gr H-380, the things was canned death on
“ Soybeanus Digestus “.

There was a TV commercial going at the time, for “ Friskies Buffet “ cat food.
Their slogan was. …” They don’t walk away, from “ Friskies Buffet “.

We took to calling’ the rifle “ Friski’s “, which seemed apt.

I have a super-accurate Marlin M-336 XLR in .35 Remington.
With its 24” barrel, it looks longer than other lever gun contemporaries.
When viewed from the muzzle end, the barrel diam to bore diameter ratio and perceived barrel taper strongly remind of naval cannons.

Being long & lean, and with big gun powe; I nicknamed it “ Hood “, after the
HMS Hood… who’s barrel taper the XLR’s resembles.

Very strange question I Know. Blame the medication. Lol.
I did. "Tater" is my Ruger Blackhawk (SA) chambered in .357 & "Miss Betsey" is my nickle plated 1911 clone chambered in .45 ACP.
I have to give designed names to each barrel in every cartridge I own.
I keep notes and targets for every barrel for future reference. I have more than one rifle in per cartridge. If I didn't I would forget which is which.
Not people names but designations like P300wsm, M300sm, C30wsm...

All my rat rifles are named:

SPOD (Silver Princess of Death - M700 11T 204R Match)
Wicked Wanda (Cooper MTV 204R)
Long Range Loretta (M700 243AI)
Scooter (Cooper 20VT)
Rosa (Cooper 223)
Furball (Cooper 221FB)

Life would be a bit more mundane without naming favorite field companions IMO.

I have one I named it 708 savage one named 708 encore, one named 708 UPR and one named 708 BSA. they are all jealous of each other wanting my attention

I don't name the handguns, but the factory puts numbers on them.
S&W Model 52
S&W Model 41
S & W Model 29
Hammerli Model 152

Rifles
"6BR Prairie dog gun"
" 22-250 Prairie dog gun"
Shotgun
"Belgian Superposed Lightning"

Pretty lame names, compared to others shown here, I don't really name them, just sort of refer to them by what I listed.

Friend in WV named this one for me. I always hunted with Contender pistol and decided to use the 17 inch Encore rifle I bought for kids to deer hunt with. Friend was looking it over and I said how do you like my rifle? That’s not a rifle the barrel is too short! It’s a Pifle!

Now...after a few beers...a mate has a rifle known as Neil.
It's his 6BRX/GRS stock with a Lakeland action. No? They were made in Finland in the 80's. I think the guy who now does the Lynx action was behind them. Nicely made 6 lug action with a rotary magazine.

Neil? Well, as in Neil Finn, Crowded House/Fleetwood Mac guitarist.

Back many years ago, I built an AR15 spacegun for xtc. Another shooter named it Darth Vader. When I built a new and improved one, it had to be Luke, son of Darth.

Rem 700 30-06 plain Jane rifle black stock black everything with a leupold on it. Rides next to me everywhere I go. Truck gun.

Guys I hunt with nicknamed it

BLACKDEATH
