Do you guys use protection?

I use Scope Chaps for scope protection. Great product the works. Small vet owned company. Good people.

I use scope chaps as well. Also just got a few can chaps as well which are working great.

Swarovski used to recommend using a section cut from the finger of a rubber glove. I have never tried this, and I'm not certain that they still recommend it.
Sounds like it would work.

I have used the masking tape trick before.
It does work well.
With the choice of very low tack painters tape available now, that should work very nicely.
Worked 20 yrs in the pressure sensitive tape business.
These painters tapes are not much more than a post-it note stick.
Should be super easy to clean up if any residue is left.
Most now are water based adhesives to get more environment friendly.
Older tapes were solvent based and typically required a more aggressive solution to remove the adhesive.

I keep a roll of the old black friction tape handy. Predecessor of today's electrical tape and one roll lasts forever. I cut a strip just the size for the rings and use on both halves. Provides good cushioning between scope and rings and just tacky enough for additional grip. Haven't marred a scope in years and they never slip.
