I need to run a 'ladder test' on this load?

6.5x47 Lapua #2 by Sharps45 2 7/8, on Flickr

Fired these 10 rds yesterday from 800 yds. from my 6.5x47 Lapua using 38.5 grs. Varget and BR-4 primers. Had a fishtail wind from 6 o/clock running around 6-8 mph so just shot this 'straight-away' meaning just using a DWZ aka Dead Wind Zero to see how the group would cluster. First round hit at the 3 o/clock position left of the bolt head and I fired the other 9 into the cluster seen. All 10 rounds could be covered with the top to the spray can. White plate is 20" diameter.

Dang Awesome Shooting!!!!

Ladder test? Not unless you need help climbing back down from the cloud your walking on after shooting that group... ;D

Great Job!

Looks great, Rick! Still making bullets?

I visit YOUR SITE quite often ole friend! You're doing a great job with it by the way! No...I was wearing my body out making the darn things and betwixt having to have my arse glued to the seat of an Ag plane most of the time....I finally gave it up as I just couldn't devote the right amount of time to the bullet making endeavor! I quit flying 5 years back and now I'm a 'gofer' for my son whose running the business; actually his business now! I talk with Johnie Franklin quite often and Mike Dunia but other than that I haven't had any association with the old crowd! I haven't fired a round in a registered NRA event since I won the Texas State Long Range match back in '94! Good to hear from you! I guess you're still kicking arse and taking names in Palma aren't you??

Take care!

Nice!
Which bullet are you using?

DBailey

Shooting the 123 gr. Sierra HPBT but this rifle shoots the Berger 130 target bullet just as well and both bullets hit to same point of impact without changing zero!!

What they all said. What do you have the plate bolted to and what happens if you hit the bolt?

Snake

Here's the deal! Everything is steel! Large plate is 72"x72" and the black bull is 44" diameter! White bull is 20" diameter and is AR400 bull dozier plating....same size as the regulation Palma/Creedmoor paper target!

Plates off-set 2" from each other. I welded a 2" length of square tubing to the back of both plates and the bolt slides through and is attached to the large plate! Used 2 3/8" upset tubing (oil field pipe) for the holder framing!

Oh...when I hit the bolt head....I break my arm patting myself on the back!!

Thanks but....I was not USMC; rather US Army assigned to the USAAMU at Ft. Benning. I have that signature in honor of my brother....who WAS in the Corps!! ;D ;) Back in the day....WE BEAT THE SOCKS OFF the USMC in the Inter-Service Matches at Quantico and Camp Perry in the team matches and individual events!! ;D :) :D

Rick,

That's a formidable long-range target you've created. I'd like to put this up in the Bulletin. Please send an email with your phone number. I have a couple questions.

Send email to: mailbox [at] 6mmbr.com

Thanks!

Hey Rick,

Good visiting with you in OK last week. Gave Nancy the hug that you requested, and she said "Hi" back at ya.

Kevin

Was a real opportunity to get to meet you in person after having talked with you over the telephone several times when you were with Sierra! Nancy Tompkins is one great gal; known her and the family for many years back; even before the years I spent with the MTU at Ft. Benning! Great family!

Again....thanks for the Lapua caps! Had a great turkey hunt as we all tagged out on big gobblers!
