Do most BR competion shooters use a rest with joy stick or with out ?

I shoot off a Farley rest with an Edgewood bag,,I was using a Protektor Rabbit ear rear bag shooting UBR Score,,could have been a fluke but the first 2 matches after getting an Edgewood Gator rear bag with short ears and slick material I shot my highest scores ever,,

I couldnt imagine shooting the UBR targets off a rest without a joystick,,shooting sighters and then getting on a record bull watching the flags and reloading the rifle would seem to be really hard with a regular front rest,,

If you test a variety of guns or do regular load testing and tuning using multiple aim points on a target sheet, you will find the joystick rests are faster and more convenient to use. That said, I actually like the precision of a knob (non-coaxial) rest for checking zeros and an ultra-precision elevation change. But 90% of the time I go to the range, it's with a Joystick rest. YMMV.

I'm my opinion for lr br it depends on your rig. If your rifle is set up to shoot fast strings (ejector or drop-port and load port level ammo block and ability to track well) you will be best served by the Sinc. Comp. rest. Otherwise you will be best served by a coaxial. I recommend you get a Sinc. Comp. rest with an Edgewood front bag plus their port level loading block and a Edgewood gator rear bag. If budget permits also get a shadetree engineering coaxial top (I like mine better than my Farley which I sold) and a sinclair base plate from field and cave outfitters. Base plate gives extra stable platform and off-sets rear screw which makes perfect place to rest hand while operating the joy stick of the shadetree top. You will then have the best of both worlds with the choice of tops that will suit all your needs. The extra windage of the Comp in addition to coaxial top is comes in handy when shooting multiple targets or critters. This is by far my favorite set-up and I've had/used most including Farley but not seb. An absolute Cadillac set-up you will never regret.

As far as you being able to compete in lr br- you will find that MOST will be happy to accommodate your needs and appreciate a new shooter. lr br shooters are a great bunch of people. Beware, if you give it a try you most likely will be hooked. Good luck.

Bpmoss1. Thanks for your help. I have a chance to buy a Sinclair bottom with shadetree top with joystick and a bone slick bag on rest. The guy that wants to sell me it said bag us really nice. Shot off bag 10x. Only reason he is selling it is that his SEB rest just came in that he has been waiting along time. He sent me pictures. He us a member here on this site. Said he will sale it to me for 2
$490.00 includes shipping. He said I would never find one this nice for price. He said he guarantees I will like it. Do you think that is a fair price ? I live in Iowa 2hours from Brownell’s and can buy a Sinclair competion for $600.00 but don’t think it has bag plus have to $45.00 in tax on it. Know this is the big question. I will be shooting a a AR10 6.5 creedmoor with a folding/ sliding adjustable stock. Do you think this type of butt stock will slide on a rear bag ? You think it will slide on a front bag. I don’t know ? Also will be shooting a Ruger m77 bolt 6.5 creedmoor big laminated stock with 28 inch barrel I think rest would work on that but not sure in the AR10? Your thoughts. Marty

That's a good price as the shadetree top is over $300. see if he also has the top it came with too. EGW (evolution gun works) sells front & rear adapters for use with ars on benchrests. I use a 3" front on my varmint ar and it works great. My collapsible rear stock works well in rear bag as it has a 3" long flat on bottom. It's mag-pul but don't remember model. The base plate i mentioned will compliment the shadetree top very nicely.

The shade tree rest is a fantastic rest. A member on here named (Butch Lambert a great guy) manufactures sells and ships the shade tree rests from right here in the good ole USA! I personaly own 4 of his tops, all on bald eagle bottoms and they all work flawlessly and if for any reason you have a problem, Butch is always there to help.

Oh wait, I thought it was a comp rest. The tripod rests are not near as expensive, nor are they near as nice. I have a Sinc heavy varmint rest that I used to use the shadetree on but it was not nearly as nice to use as the comp. W/ base plate. Still a decent set-up. I would try to get it for a liile less if possible.
