Dj's Brass question

Do you guys find you still need to fireform after you get 6Br brass converted to 6 dasher with Dj's service.

I'm at the Y in the road on a bench rifle, 6BR = easy or Dasher = fireform but better performance.

My smith says BR due to case prep which I don't really want to do. But I want the performance!

Being that I'm new to the 6 BR variations i'd like to get all the help I can get and don't mind paying for quality.

There is enough work in load development and finding the time to shoot without having to worry about a first time fireforming, new gun, new caliber etc.

When you guys setup your Brass with DJ what all do you have done to them on the first run from 6BR. THis will help me tons get going. Obvisouly when I call DJ I will take their guidance just want to get all the normal info and learing out of the way.

Good plan!!! Once you've sorted through all the answers you get here listen VERY carefully to Darrel and take notes ;) The only thing I did for DJ was neck size and anneal which saved steps for him when he turned my necks. (6 BR) He kept wall thickness variance to .00025" on 100 cases. 98 of them .00015" or less !!!....... Frankly, I was amazed.

Or take a look at the 6BRA, a lot of guys guys building them. Seems to be the best of both worlds, just load your 6BR brass and shoot. Uses 6 dasher dies, take a look.

let me get the dumb questions out of the way then. can somone give me the short version of the 6br Ackley. Its a BR with a 40deg shoulder that's it...
I'm guessing your still fire forming the case though right.

I'm missing the point of it being easier than a DAsher...

What is the load amount and speed vs the Dasher with say a 105 bullet?

I'm stuck a little I guess. I want the 1000yrd performance with the BR accuracy and consistency, but a little worried about all the brass prep and trouble I "could" run into.

The BRAI is exactly what you are looking for. Just do a search and you will have some good reading. Fireforming is as simple as pulling the trigger. Really no different than any virgin brass, which you would shoot before a match. I see no down side to this cartridge. Enjoy.:D:D

I have won multiple IBS 1000 Yard Relays using virgin 6 Br Lapua brass that DJ turned the necks and hydro-formed into 6 Dasher for me. No fire forming! I know of several others who have won relays without fire forming. The only things I do are hone the inside of the necks with a bronze brush, polish the outside of the shoulders and necks with 0000 steel wool and touch up the chamfer inside of the necks. Finally, I run them in a 6mm expander die and then in my NJ full length sizing die to set the neck tension. DJ's work is amazing. He also is one of my go to guys for reloading advice. I highly recommend him.

Might look into 6brx, really simple, I've never used DJ, but you load 30 grs varget jam the bullet .020 and shoot it, now you have a 6brx that has the same FPS as dasher, you can still use regular 6br dies but I did buy the 6brx die from Whidden, great die extremely smooth.
