Disappointed - Lapua brass sorting

Weighing brass is useless, but it does keep us playing with our toys.

If you really want to get somewhere, buy sort brass by the amount of run out just in front of the web...sinclair sells the tool.

well I have came up with this so here I go.from what I can tell he shouldn't have done all of the prep work first.by doing this he has lost weight form what the brass originaly weighed.so think about it chamfering/deburring,and cutting the primer pockets will take away brass from the case.and by doing this we cannot do it the same every time, its just not possible to do.and when I did this one time with a lot of 100 pcs it gave me way to many weight classes.thats why I weigh it then prep.but the again I could be wrong, and that this is just an opinion.

Well, based on some feedback I'd gotten earlier, I purchased 300 pieces of Lapua brass in 308 Win to start making some long range loads.
I trimmed, chamfered, deburred, expanded, neck turned, etc., and then sorted the brass. I was anticipating good things, but ended up very disappointed. I had two distinct "groups" of brass weights, as you can see from the attached snapshot.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Is there anything I can do about it?
I should note, that all three boxes of brass I received were from the same lot (P00446002), and all other numbers were identical between the boxes of brass.

Thank your lucky stars!!!!!

The first batch of Lapua, 6.5-284 I got ahold of varied by as much as 5-6gr's. with in the first 100 pcs weighed.

Just finished weighing 200 pieces of Lapua 6.5X47 Brass (Lot #P00433901). All but 3 were within a 1gn between 161.8-162.4. However I had several pieces that had pretty bad dings in the neck (see photo). I also weighed another box of Lapua 6.5x47 that I just purchased from Cabelas that has no Lot # (see photo) and that brass weighed an average of 3gn heavier.

I have seen more variation than that within a lot. The attached distribution is from 300 .308 Win cases, all the same lot. They varied by 1.3% and, by inference, we could expect to see as much as 2% from a larger sample population.

These were all from the same lot. Does buying 1000 of them make a difference versus buying 300?

Also, it was interesting to see that there were basically two sets of equal numbers that would have fit a normal distribution.

A larger sample population from within the same lot would generally yield more variance. A lot of brass could be very large and the numbers we buy represent a small sample.
