Disapointment

Back when I lived in Bowie, People's Republik of Maryland, I really looked forward to any trip, business or personal, that took me to Richmond, or somewhere that required going to Richmond, because I got to take a short detour of the Interstate and stop at Green Top. Can't say enough good about that place; NEVER had a bullet, primer or powder need they couldn't meet, or a question that they couldn't answer, along with an in-stock solution to go with it. It's one of the few things I miss moving up here to PA. I can only imagine what they'll be like with the square footage they'll gain taking over a Gander Mountain store. ;D

Its all about "control"................

Trickle down government. Its the way "management companies" operate. Tell you what to sell, wear, how to speak etc. Gander models its corp. structure just like the current government. "WE KNOW BEST" whats good for you and your store, as if they new what sold in different sales regions.

Black powder is harmless, thats what that kit gun stuff is all about !! Isnt it? Just a quote from a typical sales meeting............................... my thoughts.

Brand new store just opened a few weeks ago in Valdosta ga. No powder primers or bullets at all . No loading components. I don't understand either.
I thought gander mountain sold it all.

Slander mountain employed me for 2 years part time. When we opened I worked 40-50 hours a week part time with no benefits whatsoever.I took a break as I worked in the archery/gun dept.I was choking on a snadwich and the crew in the room with me including a first responder and left me for dead.I would have died right there if by chance my co-worker from archery to whom I owe my life to,gave me the heimliech manuver and saved my life on the spot.I told the manager that one of his key people ran away and didnt tell anyone. We held a service for him and I presented him with a 500.00 custom knife. And for those who ran out and didnt call a 911 in the store, the manager didnt do anything to them, not even a safety meeting explaining once again to grab a phone and call a 911 to the kitchen. They really are a bunch of ass%#$%. I will never set foot in there ever again and they cut my hours to less than 8-10 hours after the incident.

As of a month ago Gander Mountain in Pittsburgh,PA still had reloading supplies. I was pressed for time & needed a pound of powder now. Had the wife pick me up a pound, $30 plus tax. Been better off at the local mom & pop would have saved gas. Last purchase at G.M. for me.

williamsport store in pa. had alittle left last month but appeared to be downsized. B&C scores i believe there is a awards book which for typical is 160 and the all time book which is 170 . but either way the clerk was wrong .

They're not interested in being a full service outfitter, only maximizing their profit per square foot.

Look at the square footage of the store... Most of the store is devoted to selling clothing (preferably stuff they have made for them in Malaysia with their brand name sewed on) or shoes, because that's where the largest margins are.

Reloading gear apparently doesn't have much profitability or much value as a loss leader. Gone. More profit in camo under-armour. ::)

Got a Gander Mt from me (50 Miles) in Springfield,Il, what a pathetic excuse. SCHEELS just opened a Super store, Gander Mt powder $30.00 per ib, Scheels $25.00 per ib. Scheels has a Gun dept to die for.
They even have a full size Ferris Wheel in the entry. What a store, they draw from 200 miles plus. Gander has no cars in the parking lot--they deserve it. Hope they close, just feel bad for the employees. They are located less than two miles apart.

I just came back from a hunting trip to Colorado and stopped in the Cabela's store in Grand Junction. I needed a shell holder and looked at the RCBS, it was $8.99. Sportsman's Whearhouse had RCBS for $6.99 and is a 1/2 Mi down the street.

Gander Mtn. In Wichita Kansas is the same way, I left in a few min. with a Wal-Mart kinda of felling, with higher prices.
