Dimmer Switch

Definitely not you. I have taken to turning my rear view mirror back toward the car (or usually truck) behind me so they can share in the discomfort of blinding glare from their vehicle. Funny, they all seem to back away from that point on...too bright for them.
At least here (Oregon), when flashed, most do turn their brights off.

It's actually against the law to flash people to let them know that they have their brights on too. That being said, I have a 52" led light bar that I use to let people know they need to dim their lights. I have a 30" in the rear for the ones behind me too!

I'm on the road a lot and I don't think the number of inconsiderate people has gone up. Lights have gotten brighter and older eyes are more sensitive to them also. I think the number of idiots is still about the same

It is not you. Most do not dim them any more. With the newer high output lights it is hard to tell if you are being high beamed or not. Then if you are in a lower car and a pickup is coming at you low is still like looking at the sun.

Forget the dimmer switch!! I give them a quick blip with my aux. lights. Sorry if that's wrong but, that's what I do. NOW, if you want to talk about turn signals!! I am seriously starting to believe that most new cars come without a turning signal lever!!

I have been noticing it the last couple years it's gettin worse, I just drive with my brights on anymore till they acknowledge me. It use to be common courtesy but no more, think it's called zombie nation these days

It's hard to see the road from the glare of the phone screen I guess, wouldn't know. I think a lot of them do that. My wife gets tired of me cussing them every time it happens. So,yeah, I cuss a lot.

Actually, if you are beyond the distance where you MUST dim your lights (in ND it is 500 feet for oncomming traffic) they can't ticket you.

So, if 60 MPH = 88 feet per second per vehicle X 2 for the other car doing 60 mph = 176 feet per second closer speed. It takes 3 seconds to close the 500 foot distance. SO....if they are more than 3 seconds away (500 feet) from you you can do whatever you want with your lights. The next time you are out and about think about how close 500 feet (3 seconds) actually is. WAY too close IMO.

On the flip side..you're an asshole (IMO) if you don't dim when you are at least 1500 feet apart....especially with todays headlights!!

Again, just stirring the pot!! :D

My technique has changed over the years too... I now wait until the other vehicle is boresighted to turn mine down (at long range). I consider it a hint that they should turn theirs down. Works good in Oregon, not so much in metropolitan western Washington. I think it is a mentality thing. Just try driving through a metropolitan area - misuse of lights and horn, tailgating, and other unfriendly narcissistic behaviors are common to the point of being cultural norms.

I don't know the solution to the problem, but we need to gently teach
the right ways.

that's what I thought too but no really they just don't dim the lights black mirror has them in it's control lol
HID, Xenon, LED, etc, have much higher energy than halogen bulbs, and are much brighter than the bulbs of old. As we age, the glare of modern lights is harder for our eyes to deal with. Look how much brighter LED tail-lights are than the early bulb type.

A lot of those same people have the same difficulties with their turn signals as well, just too busy with other more important things than driver awareness. Just my .02

Too easy to get a drivers license.

Should have to go to school like private pilots.

Not a bad idea and I agree in principal but drivers buy cars, gas and maintenance. That equals jobs and taxes. As far as a PP license, if motor vehicle operators license were that difficult, we'd still be driving on those old storied two lane highways of the 40s & 50s like Route 66, US 1 and the Lincoln Highway (US route 30).
