Digital Trigger Pull Gauge

I have the Lyman and the Wheeler and like the Wheeler better. I tend to get some fluctuation in readings for the same trigger with the Lyman and consistent readings with the Wheeler.

I have a high dollar pointer mechanical force gauge that is dead nuts accurate (an industry term for you fans of 'My Cousin Vinny";)). The Lyman compares VERY favorably to it at a much cheaper price. The pointer gauge does beat it in the under 3oz range but above that the Lyman is pretty much dead on. Regardless of the gauge the user must be very repeatable in the angle and consistency of the pull force to get repeatable readings. In addition the contact between the device and the trigger must be in the same spot each time to be accurate; the 'lever arm' will change if the contact point on the trigger changes between tests.

These are words of wisdom, especially "Regardless of the gauge the user must be very repeatable".

Snakepit summed it up ,repeatable ,repeatable, repeatable . I have three and the bottom line is be consistent and repeatable

I will get the wheeler gauge for the 1 pound or higher triggers and a Swiss correx mechanical force gauge in the 30 or 100 gram range for the benchrest triggers such as the bix n Andy and the flavio.

Hmmm. Never thought about that. Thanks.

I tried to measure the trigger weight on a Jewell BR using the Lyman gauge. Never registered through 5 tests. Showed 0 lbs 0 oz each time.

Could it be that you failed to hit the Ready button before pulling the trigger? You have to hit Ready every time you pull the trigger with it. It makes an audible squeak when you press this button. I can get readings down to 1.5 oz. with my Lyman gauge.

Checked after testing by flicking the bar with a finger. It was reading. Not my gauge, so I can't retest.
