Digital Smart Scopes

I'm wondering how many shooters are contemplating getting a heads up digital smart scope or already have one they're using? Is this one of those things that old school shooters resist, looking at it as dumbing down skill levels?

I've always been kind of a "gadget guy" having a new gadget is always fun for me (to my wife's dismay). Like when smart phones started to become relevant (before I-phone's) I got myself and my wife a Palm Treo 650. It was great having as wireless pone integrated with my PDA with some internet capabilities. Now I'm intrigued with this kind of thing happening with rifle scopes.

The first one that caught my eye a few year back is Vortex's high tec scope that's now the Army's M157 scope: 1768680213159.png

I figured in time the advancement in technology would likely reduce the size of such a scope. And now Burris has a couple, one being the Eliminator 6:

And there's others, like the Swarovski ds2 5-25x52P and the Revic Radikl RS25b:

Something to keep in mind is these sort of scopes aren't allowed for hunting in some states.
Yes, but it depends if they've got range finders incorporated in them like Burris's Eliminator 6. Since the Burris XTR PS is designed with all the heads up display but without range finder and doesn't automatically adjust aiming point, it's legal for hunting. With the XTR PS you input atmospherics and ballistics then dial in exterior range finder distance. I'll have to report on how that XTR PS works out for me. :D

Of course, I wouldn't expect any of them to be legal in any competitive shooting contests, just yet. . . .unless the HUD is turned off. ;)

Close, I did buy a Vortex Impact 4000. It is a great aide so far. It will really be hand when the Rockchucks show up in April.

were i in a serious situation IE(military LEO ect) Id want all the help I could get but I am one of those old guys and doing the shooting i do a “normal scope” is all i want. (and mabie a bubble level fastened to tube. ) all these hitech gizmos are fun to play with but if I really want to see how well I can shoot i dont want to be using them. If it gets to the point all i do is touch a button, touch the trigger and always shoot an X at 1K - Im Out-
im not criticising anyone else. its just me.

Well, these haven't got to that point where you "touch a button, touch the trigger and always shoot an X at 1K", but it's getting close. None of these do that and you can turn them off and use them no different from any other scope. Though there is one I read about a couple years ago called TrackingPoint (the gun and scope being a combined shooting system) that you pull trigger to lock onto your target and when locked on the gun automatically fires the next moment the crosshairs come onto the target (much like a fighter pilot does).

I'd think the Burris Eliminator 6 would work particularly well when out shooting p-dogs.

But get it that you and many others would prefer carrying all the other tools to figure outa good firing solution. That's part of the skill in shooting. These high tech scopes just do it must faster and without having to carry around all the other devices. . .or all the different back up batteries for them. ;)

alot of these “systems” around for sure. We are all shooters supporting the shooting sports which is wats most important i think. Its all Good— I use a solver in my phone for E and thats it for now. i keep trying to learn more though.
