Digital caliper question

Kind of a old thread, but no one mentioned replacing the battery with the exact type. If the battery is the correct size, but not the correct type, both my thirty year old set, and three old set of Mitutoyo calipers will not function properly.

The critical element concerning the battery is the voltage, more than the size. For the most part, lithium batteries are 3 volts. These batteries are available in many different 'thicknesses'. A thinner one can be used in your device. As someone mentioned, bend the tab up a bit to assure a connection.

I used the digital for a few years.
Got to the point where I didn't always trust them.
Switched over to a set of Brown & Sharpe dial calipers.

Love em!!

Digital calipers are fine quick gauging, but near as accurate as a dial caliper (you can "squeeze a reading ") ....vernier calipers are more accurate, yes I have several sets, yes I use them.....something to think about

Definitely a battery. It's Mitsutoyo's way of telling you that the current one is low on power.

Trivia: There are no phonetics in Japan to pronounce Mitutoyo, it's spelled that way for the foreigner market.

A friend of mine designed a remote display using the Mitsutoyo SPC port on Chinese calipers. The biggest problem was that the battery life was so low on so many of the copy calipers. Mitsutoyo sells a solution that costs about $3k to use a laptop as a remote screen.

That is one thing about the Mitsutoyos, IMO, even if you leave them on they will not use the battery up. A huge plus in itself. Mine eats a battery about once every 2-3 years, a long time for a caliper battery, IMO.

It sure would be better if we converted all our shooting stuff to metric.

Pretty simple to print out a conversion chart and post it near your loading station. Or just do the measurements that are important to you, if you want a smaller chart.

looking at this caliper: https://www.amazon.com/Mitutoyo-500...&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4583451663485867&th=1

$115. Standard or $165. With Certificate of Traceability to NIST.

Can someone educate me on what the difference is? Is the standard model going to be adequate for normal reloading use?
those cals are not quite as good as the 500-752-20 which I prefer, digimatics I don't think have auto shutoff, and the fit and finish is not like the absolute's but they will work good, ebay has those for 50.00 used like new, just watch for fakes, digimatics will get the job done
