Difference in Scope Rings

Hi,

I am baffled.

Solid scope rings which do not have a strap holding the scope to the base have a wide price range.

I have a set of Monstrum Precision V2 Scope Rings. I paid a total of $21 for the set.
These appear to be well made.
They have 6 screws holding each top ring to the bottom ring and 2 screws holding each ring to the picatinny base.

What is the real difference between this $21 set and a set costing $150 or more?

Thanks,
Marty

its called quality. 21 bucks is not quality. they maybe fine for your $79 scope.
i tyically pay around 100-150 for burris signature tactical/ comp rings.
sometimes less for their std signature rings. my last scope was close to $4000..no 21 dollar rings for it.

It is a part of the critical link between your scope and your rifle, (scope base also).

The real difference is the time it take to make them. The economy rings may bend on your scope slightly due to excessive tolerances. Burris inserts are self aligning so no stress and no risk of scratches on the scope tube.

Thanks for all the information and suggestion.
I will put the rings I bought on my Nylon 66
and
purchase Vortex rings for my new Vortex scope

At that price, you're likely getting a product that originated in China and started life as an extrusion. There's essentially no margin left for quality control to be performed beyond the assembler seeing that they were put together.

Other compromises that could be made are the purity of the base metal, quality of the screws, and quality of the anodizing.

If you're comfortable using them casually, they may be worth the gamble. I would never put them on anything that I needed to rely on.

Compare that to the $150 rings that are designed and verified by teams of engineers and made in the US from billet 7075, with quality control that has multiple phases.

Any other difference is pricing structure and how willing their consumers are to pay the difference.

I do like Burris Extremes, I also use DNZ, but only the one piece
mounts on my hunters, and as of late on the last build, I'm using
Zeiss Extra Highs on a bench gun. I would have used Talley's, but
out of stock for my needs. A little more money for the Zeiss but,
probably won't miss the Talley's.

I am making some progress on my 280AI hunting build.

While it won't be an ultralight rifle, I am trying to keep it from getting overly porky. Since my action will have a pinned scope rail, I need some 30mm quality rings to mount to the rail that aren't overly beefy.

Price Range: I am a Honda/Toyota guy. Quality, but reasonably priced. No Chinesium, but nothing made of unobtanium either.

Burris 30 mm Signature Zee Rings.

NF 6 screw ultralights for hard kickers and heavy scopes, never ever slip even when using the 18 in lb spec of some of the scope manufacturers, not cheap but excellent.

Nobody has mentioned line boring sets and straightness.....pairs cut from same piece of metal then EDM in half etc. Just price...ok
