Difference btw Vari-XIII, VX-3, VX-III

Is there much difference between the 3 generations? I see people prefer one over the others but don't really know why. Also, I know the Vari-XIII is the older but which is the newest? Thanks.

Steve

VX3 is newest. Coatings improved over the 3 gens. The VAri-x was first and the VX2 is now same as old Vari-x 3 as far as coatings

Have always wondered what differences existed between the various Vari-X, VX, etc models. This gives some clarity.

I've sent one or two Vari-X scopes back to them and know a few others that have as well and Leupold has replaced the glass on a few, I'm wondering if they are using the newer glass when doing so.

It get's even worse with differences from year to year and no designation of age.
You could buy a 'new' Vari-X III today & find out later it's a 10yr old model!
Leupold needs to stop competing with themselves and drop 90% of their line. Focus instead on competing with all the other scope makers.

Oh, so true! I stopped even trying to discern what the various models are. Terrible practice and you have to be a Leupold guru to even barely know what the new multi-numbered abbreviations mean. It is hard enough to know how one suits better than another, let alone knowing if it is better, or similar to another scope from a different company. I have taken to buying only used, and have started using the opinions of other shooters as my criteriea to make a choice. I would never buy a new scope today, just because of the "too many choices" issue.

I just put a VX6 3-18 on anew deer rifle. Its the finest hunting scope I've had the pleasure of owning. I plan on buying the new 8.5-42 on a Dasher
