diference in us brass

what have people experienced with the diferent us makers of brass ie. winchester, remington, federal, nosler, ect. ? what has people found in general case capacity and reloadabilty? also case longevity? Thank You, RW

RW,
Let me simplify it for you, American brass will propel a bullet down the barrel and if you have lots of time and patience you can sort and cull for competing but you just can't compare it to the European brass period the end!! I believe in AMERICA and buy American all I can, I truly wished we made brass that would stand up to Lapua, RWS, and Norma's excellent high standards but we do not! But to answer your question I like Winchester the best of what you mentioned followed by Federal, Nosler is as expensive as Lapua, some is great and some isn't as good as Remington, Remington,.......well what can I say about Remington, if your shooting a 30/30 under 100 yards it's okay. Case capacity is different with all case manufacturers and should be checked even between lots if your shooting top loads,..reloadability is fine and longevity depends on many factors, but if good reloading practices are followed and mild to mid ranged loads are used, and your firearm is within torrence you will be happy with the way any of it lasts.

Thank You for the info I was concerned about brass that is not available in uro. made such as 270 winchester to neck down to 6.5. I have always used winchester brass for most things also norma but didn't know about federal and hornady. Thanks again, RW

so many factors and opinions will come to mind for many to just answer this.what will really answer your question is that you just try what you want in many brands for your rifel.all rifels will want one or the other.most will just shoot with care in mind most brands.but as said before and will be said again the higher brands will be picked to us.

in some cases say a 5R milspec can shoot anything you feed it.just seems like it doesn't care for a brand.for me I choose to use Lapua for my lomg range shooting.started udeing remmy just had lots of it.did really well for the loads I worked with.just wanted to see if Lapua was what I had read it to be.can say yes, well yes then it works great for the 308 even my 223.but I will add that win, remmy,BH,and so on did too.even have a good bit of Hornady match I picked up from the range to try ONE DAY.just haven't got to it yet.

one other way to think of it.for me reloading is as simple as putting you unddees on.it what you really want out of your loads and rifel.if you want it to be as the best you canafford or want then you will read alot and by alot.but if your OK with better than out of the box ammo then you will read and buy what it take to do just that.not trying to start some for ya or from others reading what I had to say.but when one really takes the time to think about what they want then they'll go that way.for me I am in the middle of the reloading shooting world of things.and darn happy with it.my rifels are all great shooter and my loads just work for the rifels.my ways are simple than most and just work.can say that I can out shoot some one.I'll be a big boy and say yes.but who I do not know.I am not into takeing names.just like to shoot and roll my own.and that after looseing my two best friends to health problems the web is my friend now.

my answers are just what they are.they are just what I think at the time.I do not answer what think I cannot.just put things simple and say what I think needs to be said.I will not shoot any one down.I cannot stand that.I think each has a right to answer but answer in a friendly way,and give the best info you have to offer.

take some different cases make wise.enjoy yhe testing of each and find out for your self.thats the real fun of it.gives you lots of trigger time.

.264 Large cases

RW, saw that you neck down 270 Winchester to 6.5. I gather then you are shooting 6.5-06.
FWIW I neck up Rem 25-06 in a single lubed pass through a RCBS full size, and neck size only thereafter with a Lee Collet die.

Was contemplating using Nosler or Hornady 25-06, but Norma .270 sounds like a good alternative. Do you turn your .270 after squeezing it down to .264? If no, Is it a straight fit or is it tight ?

Thankns

thank You for your unbiased opinions and the knoledge from you guys! The cartridge is a 6.5-06 ai imp. I have heard of necking up 25-06 and also necking down the 270. I will neck turn just enough to clean up the necks after fireforming,. I have used mostly winchester brass in the past but some cartridges are being dicontinued such as 375 H&H is no longer available in winchester.
I was mostly curious as if there were any big major differences in the win, hornady, remington, and nosler? I am aware of reminton haveing less case capacity but have not had any experience with any thing else so far but I have some lapua brass waiting for my 6.5x55 build to be done!! I had one person tell me he had nosler brass and it was trimmed way short of specs and he didn't like that but I was more concerned with difference such as case wall variance and such,I do read all I can on the subject of reloading and shooting as I think it is a never ending process!! Thanks for the help and I will always listen to any one who has and opinion on these subjects!! Thanks Again,
Ron
