Die set for 6br short range benchrest

I’m kind of a newb to benchrest. I’m trying to figure out dies.

im pretty set on the Wilson Micrometer Seater, i think, but not clear why the threaded die is worse. Is it? The other option would be something like a Forster Ultraseater.

To size this, I think I would neck size with the arbor press and Wilson Neck Bushing Die each time. Then use a Redding Body Die as required by bolt closing force. The other option is a threaded Forster FL die or Wilson Bushing FL Sizing Die.

Is there a common practice here?

Get your gunsmith to ream a newlon threaded micrometer blank or a wilson micrometer blank. Either way youll be happy. If you already have an arbor press thats one less expense

Redding has everything you will need. Just my two cents. Tommy Mc

I would advise against neck sizing only. Full length sizing with a die that takes a bushing for neck sizing is the way to go. Either a Harrels f.l. bushing die or a Redding Type S f.l. bushing die will be great for your application. Harrel's offers an assortment of dies to fit your chamber so that's a plus. If the reamer for your chamber has been spec'd properly for Lapua brass, the Redding #77317 f.l. bushing die works great!

For a seater, a basic Wilson seater with a non-micrometer top and a small arbor press like the K&M is all you'll need.

Some use a threaded seater die, also. Redding and Forster offer good options here with their sliding sleeve style seaters.

Personally, I prefer the Wilson over the threaded sliding sleeve style threaded seaters. Once you start using a Wilson hand seater, you'll wonder how you ever got along without them.

You can make great ammo with either style seater, though. -Al
