Die question

I have question, I am planning to clean brass using an ultra sonic. I was thinking it would be better to remove the primer first, then clean the brass? Only problem I can't find a primer only punch,is this the way to go or am I missing something?

Thanks KL

Yes, remove the spent primers first. Clean any debris from primer hole before reloading. I use the RCBS primer removal die. I believe Lee and others make a similar die.

LE Wilson makes decaping bases for every rim diameter. Then you need the ppc/br decapping punch for small flash holes or the regular one for the rest. Available from Sinclair International.

A lot of primers have been removed with a plain old nail 'O)
They will clean up better with the primer removed and cleaned before going in the US.

Redding makes a kit that you can buy that does large rifle, small rifle and also a small pin to do the BR and PPC cases .

I use a Redding "universal decapping" die which works with 6BR flashholes, but you have to be sure your case is all the way into the shell holder or you can easily bend the pin. If you are using a bushed neck sizer you can also pop out the bushing and decap without neck sizing. I did that for a long time before I got the "universal" die.

However you do it, you are on the right track. Decap, clean, then do the other stuff. Your tools will love you.

Good luck,

I use a Neil Jones decapper.

This is a great product. very fast.
Soon as I get home after shooting, I deprime the fired rounds, and toss em in the cleaner.
