Did I miss something?

I just did my "deceased" sisters final taxes and cut a couple of checks totaling $9.5K.
At least she had the investments to cover her care over the last 5+ years. Over $200K.
Lots of good investments, a good retirement plan and NO deductions. :( Good thing she didn't know how much it was costing HER.:D

And she always accused me of spending HER money? Damn right I did, ON HER!!
You can't take it with you unless you can change it into Travelers Checks.:p

As far as ME receiving a check from the government? Won't happen AND, lucky for me and mine, I don't need one.;):D

I think it's important to note some people getting the stimulus don't need it YET. We're just seeing the start of this, the check is helping those in trouble now and many more will follow. No telling how bad it could get.

When Trump announced there would be a stimulus package voted on by congress it made my butt pucker because I knew from past experience what it meant. The democrats do their same sordid routine every time there is any money spent. They hold up the works with ludicrous demands until they get 80+% of what they demand in conference. The republican leadership bargain with the attitude that it is incumbent on them passing a spending bill at any cost and we the taxpayers suffer from it. Our country is drowning in debt and we just upped the anti again thanks to insane demands.

I have no problems with helping out people truly affected financially by this pandemic. Small businesses that are forced to close have no recourse so they should have special consideration. Even churches are affected and they loose donations due to it and the good they do for needy families in the communities they are in suffer all the more.

The only recourse the people have is in the voting booth and we should all remember this last fatal lesson about government come November. Government has not and will never manage our tax money wisely. It would go a long way to fixing the debt if we replaced about 90% Congress with Constitutional Conservatives that will close the wasteful programs that have been in operation since FDR. Quit funding NPR, Margaret Sanger's "Murder Incorporated" and many other organizations that receive too much funding already from other sources.

The government has no means of making money other than taxation and outright gaming the system by printing it. Our manufacturing base has been driven out of country by far too much Federal Oversight and a legal system that is on steroids. We are fast reaching the day or financial reckoning and I pray that we don't end up being governed by China.

Ned, all to often I see my tax dollars going to "people who really need it" these people are also sucking everything they can off the system. Is there people who really could use it of course there is.

For example, I have a brother in law with four kids, he works odd jobs for cash and his wife does not work. They do not contribute at all and every year they get $8-10K back when they do their taxes. Not to mention other hand outs. I have offered him jobs with the company I work for that is $60/hr in compensation. He says "do I have to piss clean?" So becauae he cant stop smoking weed and put his family first we support him. I see this all the time, able bodied people who won't work and on paper they "really need help"

why don't those on welfare, food stamps etc have to pass a drug screen ?

In simple words: The folks who are getting the free stuff don't like the folks who are paying for the free stuff because the folks who are paying for the free stuff can no longer afford to pay for both the free stuff and their own stuff. And the folks paying for the free stuff want the free stuff to stop. And the folks getting the free stuff want even more free stuff on top of the free stuff they're already getting. Now the people who are forcing the people who pay for the free stuff have told the people who are receiving the free stuff that the people who are Paying for the free stuff are being mean and prejudiced. The people getting the free stuff are convinced they need to hate the people paying for the free stuff. We have been giving away free stuff for so long that there are now more people getting free stuff than there people paying for free stuff! LOL!!

Free, free, free hasn't ever solved any problem. A lot of governors are going to look silly if hydroxy chloroquine tablets are a viable therapy. Shelter the 65+, and individuals with kidney and respiratory problems and let the rest of the 95% develop antibodies if infected.

You would think the govt could identify people with money in the bank. Then award those who are almost broke. They know believe me because if I walked in to my bank and took out 30 thousand in cash it would go under review by the federal govt.

The stock market likes it so Americans with their retirements in the market like it. Personally, it does nothing for me and has a lot of pork in it that disgusts me.

A lot of people seem to be saying that the world will look different. I don't think it will. I think it will be business as usual just as it has always been. WW I should have changed the world. WW II should have changed the world. Korea should have changed the world, Vietnam should have changed the US. 20 years of war in the middle east should have changed the US. The economic collapses of the great depression, Y2k, the housing crisis of 2008 should have changed the US. Nothing changes anything. Man is an animal and rarely a rational animal as Aristotle believed. He/She will continue to procreate, hunt and gather. So it has always been, so it will always be.

I hope you're right. And I agree - I don't think people's basic nature will change regardless of the crisis but the landscape may change at least for a time due to the extraordinary deficit spending.

+1 I'd rater see people stepping up and helping those in need, I know I am anyway. Funny shit now Pelosi was saying we need to go through it and know whats in it before we pass it.

Thanks Dusty. I just checked, and we do each get $1200. They expect to mail all the checks by April 12th.
I am thinking one of those new Ruger five-sevens and a thousand rounds of ammunition. I went to my guy's shop this afternoon to pick up a couple more boxes of Winchester white box 180gr JHP for my 40 S&W, and he is expecting a couple in next week. One is on hold for me, along with 1000 rounds, half and half JHP and Solids; so I get a new toy to play with. I also traded my 365 SAS for a Glock 26 and some jingle back. I just could not see owning a pistol I could not get hi-cap mags for in this climate. My 33 round factory mags are very comforting to a decrepit old fart like me.

I hope the landscape changes in a fashion that people remember, next November, what kind of crap the left threw into this bill and that the tossing of that crap delayed the process for a week. They basically said that they were going to kill Americans if they did not get their agenda implemented.

Growing up, my father and grandfather told me many times "the world don't owe you a living." One of many homilies I have taken to heart over my life. Now in my own golden years, I am also coming to the realization that giving is one of the greatest joys in life. For me one of the most cherished views of being an American is; We have the right to succeed and more importantly we can also fail. I have done both, but always got up and put one foot in front of the other. Always paid my bills, used credit sparingly, and waited many times until I had the cash to buy something. I wish many of the bigger brains in government operated by the same philosophy. Sadly I am worried about the future, for my children and grand children. I don't need or want free money BACK from the government. Just wish they would spend the money they take wisely. Guess that is to much to ask.
Cowboy up.
