Did I get the wrong reamer?

I took several folks advise and ordered my own reamer when it was time to rebarrel my rifle. Emailed gunsmith that built it and got specs. Also confirmed here about specs for caliber and bullet I planned to shoot, all said the same thing.
Called ptg and discussed with cs person and she said no need to send in dummy round, what I wanted was a standard cut reamer.
It arrived and is engraved as I spec'ed it.

So, its a 6.5x47L, specs are .294 nk with .175 fb.
I was loading the 140gr Berger btlrt at 2.870" oal and was .010" off the lands.
Now loading the hybrids, 2.800" oal touches the rifling. And the bt/base junction of the bullet is just below the shoulder/neck junction which means the bullet is in the dounut a little.
I thought the hybrid would be a longer.
Loaded one of the old 140 btlrt just to check and it has to be loaded to 2.790 to just touch the rifling.

My question is, did I get a .175 fb or maybe a .100 fb

Where do I go from here?

I also just checked and my smith does not have a 6.5 throat reamer.

You could do a cerosafe chamber cast and be sure to get more of the rifling in the casting. Then measure and know for sure. You might not be able to get to within .001 but telling the difference between .070 and .140 should be supper easy and the casting is supper cheap.

If you asked me I would have suggested a .175" freebore reamer, which is what mine is. Mine is a .290" neck though, but you are welcome to use it if you need it.

Sorry. It is a .175fb.
Got interupted by granddaughter.
Trying to get her to bed and aggrivated I guess I got my numbers jumbled.
I'll correct above post.

Ok, then something must be wrong, sounds like reamer does not match print. :(

Throating reamer would solve your problem for now, or send it back to PT&G and have them verify and fix the issue.

I've been so busy around here I've let the big matches sneak up on me an just now getting around to rebarreling my rifle. Might have to screw the old one back on for now.

What kind of action do you have?

Had it been a Panda I could send you a barrel I just finished chambering 30 minutes ago and some neck turned brass. I won't need it for a while but I chambered it just because I had time. Sorry to hear about your issue, it sucks!

Thats mighty generous of you, wish i could take you up on it.
I haven't jumped into a panda yet, probably my next one will be.
The thread a few weeks ago got me to looking hard at them.

Barry, send me a couple of 140 hybrids and I'll seat them to touch the lands in my barrel and we can compare notes on where they seat. That should tell us weather the reamer has a .175" freebore or not.

Will do, I'll Pm you for address.
Talked to CS at PTG today. Lady was nice and understood I am now in a crunch to get rifle ready in a few weeks. She would not commit to do anything about it in a hurry though.
She said send it back and they would check it for spec's and would remake it if needed.
They don't rush anything I guess.
My fault for waiting this long to get it done and expecting everything to go smooth.

They do have a 6.5 throat reamer in stock so I bought one and hopefully it will be here in a few days.

Ya, they don't seem to understand that most of the time you don't know the reamer is not to spec until you chamber a barrel and then you have wasted a barrel to learn that. Send your gunsmithing bill with the reamer. Maybe they will do some quality control if guys start making them eat chamber jobs?

If it's not in spec I think I'll do that.
Till I know for sure its not the reamer and not me being a DA, I'll hold off on that.

How in the heck do we know once we order a reamer with specs given it's what you ordered without chambering a barrel? Eason I ask is I have a 6 Dasher reamer on order with PTG with a .135 FB .268 neck and a few other dimensions I can't remember off top my head right now. Now I'm worried mine won't be to spec.

It's possible to measure one before you chamber a barrel, I just don't know anyone who has the tools/equipment to do it.

You are at the mercy of the reamer grinder to know if the specs are correct. You cannot believe what someone tells you over the phone, they have no idea if it is correct.

It really sucks when you order something and the specs are not right. Not just once either.

If you want more info send me a PM and I will tell you my story. I'm not gonna start something on here.
