Derraco PCPS primer tool differences

Derraco has two levels of primer tools. I can't really see $120 difference between the two.

What am I missing?

Is the adjustment capability really something to worry about?

Will RCBS or Redding shellholders work with Derraco tools?

The adjustment is important if you set your seating depth or crush. You have to use lee priming shellholders. They are the flat ones that wont go in the press. Derraco also makes some precision shellholders for it. I have the 223, 308, and ppc shellholders for it. You can get derraco stuff from ugly reloading as they are the dealer in the usa. Excellent quality, love mine.

I can't recall in many thousands of rounds loaded where I had a primer seating depth problem with my handheld RCBS tools.

I see that the lower priced version has an aluminum body and the higher priced model has a stainless body.

It's not that the RCBS or any other hand-held tools are a problem. The issue with me, and some others, is that I have arthritic hands and also no longer have the hand strength I once had after a minor stroke a few years ago. The PCPS priming tool is a godsend for my hands.

That's why I'm looking. Cycling the handle on the Rockchucker vs. squeezing the handheld. I'm already having to switch hands on the handheld after about 50 primers.

I'm not understanding the value of the micrometer seating adjustment.

It looks like the 'lite' version should work for me.

I got my PCPS, I think, before they came out with the lite version. I think the mic adjustment is worth the extra cost but either one works really well. Mine is mounted full time on one of my Zero Press Turret heads. FYI, the Lee shell holders work just fine but the Derraco shell holders are really nice and very well machined. They, too, are worth the little extra they cost.

Informative video. I've seen several of his videos and I think that this might be the only one where he hasn't mentioned Erik Cortina at least once. :)
How dare John not mention Cortina!….. I was going to watch the video but with that knowledge it’s completely ruined it for me…..
I’ve been a mechanic, millwright, electrician, Cattle Rancher all my life so in my 60’s now my arthritis is bothering me some. I can do about a hundred or so with my 21st century hand primer or any of my many different hand primers and I prefer them but I did buy the Derraco from @Benchrest Braxton which I’m sure he could add to which he likes best but it works excellent and if I have a lot to do I’ll use it. Unlike jpjulian mounting it to a zero press I went the opposite way and bought the cheapest Lee press and dedicated to that process.

i had to pick one, so i sent with my primal rights cps, just because I think its faster (not much)

i'm only 33, but if i was older and didn't care about the slightly slower speed and I had arthritis, then i'd most certainly opt for the derraco pcps.

it's really a fantastic unit, lots of value for the $$$

The PCPS is the way to go no doubt. If you seat both small rifle primers and large go ahead and buy two bodies.. that way you can switch over in 5 minutes. This tool make seating primers to the same depth easy and fast.

I bfriend uses the lite model and it is fine for his his needs.. once he get the seating depth set he keeps it that way

That's what I was thinking. I load basically the same brass and primers 95% of the time. About 50/50 large vs small primers so a few minutes setup will not be a problem.
