Nice buck.

Shoulder shots often have deer come back from the dead. For the third time in my hunting life I had that happen again last week. Chose to put a 130 Sierra HP Gameking on the shoulder of a 10 pt. Wack and down. No movement for 5 minutes. Killed a doe after that. Picked up the doe first and went for the buck. Gone. Four hours and two helpers, even with a distant picture of where he went down. Gone.

That is the third time it has happened. Once with a 100 gr. Nosler out of a 257 Roberts. Then a Sierra 130 out of a 270. Now similar bullet out of a 6.5 Ackley. All "wack". All down and no movement for a while. All up and gone. Think it "explodes" on the knuckle of the shoulder, sheds the core from the jacket and does no penetration.

Behind the shoulder and into the next is more reliable if you can get a good shot.
or up higher on it. try the high shoulder shot on a doe sometime...

I’m thinking about loading up some 85 gr Nosler Partitions or 85 Sierra Gamekings for my 12 Twist 6 BRA to see how they do on deer. I’m better it will do just fine.
